The impact of Corporate Social Responsibility Factors on the competitiveness of Islamic
Banks in Borama, Somaliland

RESEARCH PROBLEM
Firms’ competitiveness and success is not solely dependent on their financial performance
but is also directly affected by external environment and gaining the support of various
stakeholder groups (Freeman, 1984). Compared to other businesses, banks are visible to
wider variety of interest groups and have a fundamental impact on the health of the financial
system and overall economy (Adams and Mehran, 2003).
Problem in Somaliland entities was the lack of transparency and commitment towards CSR.
However to researcher’s knowledge, there were no previous study in literature has
investigated the relationship between CSR and firm competitiveness across Islamic banks in
Somaliland. It is therefore necessary to do a comprehensive study about the relationship
between CSR and firm competitiveness across Islamic banks in Somaliland.

RESEARCH PURPOSE (GENERAL RESEARCH OBJECTIVE)
To Study the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility Factors on the competitiveness of
Islamic Banks in Borama, Somaliland.

To examine the impact of Company Size on the competitiveness of Islamic Banks in Borama,
Somaliland.

RESEARCH RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study leaves a valuable message for the top management of Islamic banks, who are to make
decisions for Sharia’s compliance as well as day to day operations. This study highlights an area that
needs attention from the top management, i.e. to pay attention on the career, training,
development and growth of their employees focusing on the moral and professional needs
highlighted in teachings of Islam.
