Bridge / Saddle Action

Tools:

 Metal engineering ruler

 Sharp pencil (acoustic)

 Sanding block - 80 gauge (acoustic)

 Flat screwdriver (Gibson)

 Allen key – they vary in sizes, metric and imperial

 Tuner

Steps:
 Measure on fret 12 – top of fret, bottom of string

Acoustic:

 High E – 1.5mm
 Low E – 2.25mm
 Use sanding block to bring saddle height down – good idea to make pencil line
as guide.

NB: With classical guitars, use these settings, but as with the other
instruments set the action according to the player’s preference.

1
Electric:

 High E – 1.3mm
 Low E – 2mm
 Set the 2 E’s first and tune them
 Next, graduate the others, giving them a ‘roll’ to follow the camber (check with
ruler).

Four-String Bass:

 E – 4mm
 G – 3mm
 As with above, set the top and lower strings first, then graduate the middle
ones.
