COURSE PREREQUISITES: Students are supposed to read the provided learning manual
before attending the class of the day.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this course is to explore business creation and growth as a multidimensional
phenomenon in both independent and corporate (intrapreneurship) settings. By linking theory and
practice the course aims to provide students an entrepreneurial perspective and a hands-on
experience in the development of new business ventures. The selected idea will be the team’s New
Venture Proposal for which a comprehensive Business Development Plan will be prepared and
presented. Classes will be conducted in seminar format promoting student’s participation. Being
the aim of the lectures to cover the subjects described in the “Course Outline” section both from a
practical and theoretical perspective, the course divides into theoretical lectures and exercise.

COURSE CONTENT (SYLLABUS):


Module: 1: Entrepreneurial Journey [Knowledge Level] 9 sessions
Introduction, The Social and economic perspectives of entrepreneurship, Different types of
Entrepreneurs, origin, GOI Initiatives, start-up Journey, Key drivers, Entrepreneurial Trinity,
Vision- Strategy- Execution Triad, leadership and government framework, steps in entrepreneurial
journey, key entrepreneurial characteristics, understanding entrepreneurial risks and rewards,
ideation, Prototyping, testing, validation and commercialization.

Module: 2: Business Model Canvas [Comprehension Level] 10 sessions


Understanding and developing business model canvas developed by ‘Alexander Osterwalder’,
Developing and connecting the nine blocks of the canvas, Testing three different companies on the
canvas model. Differentiating the nine block conventional canvas with eleven blocks digital
canvas.

Module: 3: Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship [Comprehension Level]

Innovation and economic growth, Disruptive technologies, Disruptive Vs sustainable
technologies, Why should you be interested in disruptive technologies, Understanding of top 12
disruptive technologies (Mobile internet, Automation of knowledge work, Internet of things, Cloud
technology, advanced robotics, Next-generation genomics, Autonomous and near autonomous
vehicles, Energy storage, 3D Printing, Advance materials, Advanced oil and gas exploration and
recovery, Renewable energy), 7 key area of innovation opportunities, Sustainable Development
Goals value Portfolio.

Module: 4: Challenges of New Venture Start Up [Comprehension Level] 9 sessions


Critical factors of new venture development; Why New venture fail; Evaluation Process;
Marketing concept for Entrepreneurs; Market Research, Internet Marketing, developing a Market
Plan; Pricing Strategies; Understanding the key financial statements; Preparing financial budget;
capital budgeting, Break even analysis.

DELIVERY PROCEDURE (PEDAGOGY): Participants in the course will learn through a mix
of concept discussion sessions, case discussions and role play. We will focus on covering the main
conceptual and theoretical frameworks. The learning from this course would depend on the extent
of investment of quality time and effort by every participant in preparing for each session, reading
the assigned readings, and integrating them in to the case analysis before the respective session.
Thus the onus for deriving maximum value from this course lies as much with you as with
instructor.

GUIDELINES TO STUDENTS:
Case Analysis & Class discussion: For every case discussion it is expected that students come
prepared with case in advance. Case discussion will follow the following pattern:

a. Case facts
b. Problems identified
c. Solution
d. Theoretical framework
To ensure everybody has gone thru the case there can be surprise quizzes on case facts during class
timings. And Students are expected to submit one page summary before the class. This will
be a group submission
Assignments: Various small assignments will be given as part of the course and students are
expected to submit answers to them in groups. These submissions should be group submission
and should be submitted in stipulated time.
