Blood pressure refers to the pressure that the blood experiences in the arteries when the blood is
pumped by the heart to all parts of the human body. Blood pressure is made by taking two
measurements and is usually measured as follows - 120/80 mmHg. The top number (120) shows the
upward pressure on the arteries due to the heartbeat, and is called the systolic pressure. The bottom
number (80) shows the pressure when the heart is resting between pumping, and is called the diastolic
pressure. The best times to measure blood pressure are when you are resting and are sitting or lying
down.
Blood pressure in a person's life varies naturally. Infants and children normally have much lower blood
pressure than adults. Blood pressure is also affected by physical activity, which is higher during activity
and lower when resting. Blood pressure in one day is also different; highest in the morning and lowest
during sleep at night.
If the blood pressure is known to be higher than usual on a continuing basis, the person is said to have
high blood problems. Patients with high blood pressure should have at least three blood pressure
readings that exceed 140/90 mmHg at rest.
At this time I did counseling on measuring blood pressure at my campus. For this counseling, the
measurement of blood pressure can be targeted by lecturers and students.
And the purpose of measuring this blood pressure is so that we can find out our blood pressure.
You are said to have hypertension when your blood pressure is 130/80 mmHg or more. In fact, this life-
threatening condition often shows no symptoms, so many sufferers don't know if they have
hypertension. People who are at risk of developing hypertension include those who are overweight,
smokers, over 55 years of age, alcoholics, rarely exercise, and like to eat foods that are salty and low in
potassium and calcium. In addition, those who have family members who suffer from hypertension,
diabetes or heart disease are also more at risk.
Hypotension occurs when your blood pressure is below 90/60 mmHg. Generally, low blood pressure,
even if it is chronic, is not dangerous if the sufferer does not experience symptoms such as nausea,
dizziness, fatigue, thirst, unclear vision, rapid and shallow breathing, lack of concentration, and fainting.
Dehydration.
Pregnancy.
Anemia.
The use of certain drugs, such as Parkinson's drugs, sildenafil (Viagra) and the like, antidepressant drugs,
and some drugs that directly affect the muscles of blood vessels, such as beta and alpha blockers.
Heart problems.
For those who have high blood pressure, you can have normal blood pressure by doing the following:
Physical activity can stimulate the body to produce nitric acid. This substance can make blood vessels
open thereby reducing blood pressure. By exercising, it means that you strengthen your heart muscle,
reduce stress and avoid obesity, one of the triggers for hypertension.
Our bodies only need 500 mg of salt per day. Recent recommendations suggest limiting the amount of
salt intake a day to a maximum of 2400 mg, which is the equivalent of approximately 1 teaspoon.
Apply a healthy diet and balanced nutrition
Eat healthy foods to avoid hypertension. Recommended foods include vegetables, fruit, fish, poultry,
nuts, low-fat milk and whole grains. Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages
It's not difficult to deal with stress, you can learn techniques to calm your mind such as breathing
techniques, meditation or muscle relaxation.
Meanwhile, for those who have low blood pressure, the following things can be done to increase blood
pressure:
Apart from preventing dehydration, fluids can also increase blood pressure. Therefore, meet your daily
fluid needs every day.
In contrast to people with high blood pressure who must limit salt consumption, sufferers of low blood
pressure can use more salt. However, do consult with your doctor about how much you can consume.
Special elastic stockings can be used to reduce pain and swelling due to varicose veins which leads to
reduced blood collection in the leg area.
