Instructional Media in Teaching English Using Google Translate

Translation is the process of transferring written text from one language into another.
According to Wuryanto (2015) translation is a way of transferring messages from one
language to another, in terms of meaning and form of language. By translating a language, we
also learn language, both source and target languages.

Procedures for implementing google translate in teaching English:

1. Have a source to combine with new words. New words to be known and understood
we need a source, sources can be from tutors or can be pictures, diagrams, photos and
etc.
2. Have a clear image, both visual and sound or both helps in recognizing new word
forms.Images and sound that have high clarity help people learn in recognize words,
master vocabulary and pronounce them correctly.
3. Learn to interpret unfamiliar words with the foreign language vocabulary being taught
can be invited to learn together in interprenting the vocabulary. Those who initially do
not understand a vocabulary if they understand its meaning are interested in learning
the vocabularu. Interpreting new words is very important because it still requires
encouragement to interpret words from a foreign language.
4. Create strong memories by linking the shape and meaning of words, the memorization
method is the main activity in learning vocabulary. At first the newly learned word
enters the short-term memory of the learning community then must be able to build
memories of the word to use so that it can become long-term memory.
5. Using the word. Mastery of English vocabulary requires habituation in using English
vocabulary. Habituation can be in the form of using new words during learning
process. Mastery of English vocabulary is not only using memory skills but the tutor
shoukd provide practice on vocabulary.
Strategy that can be used when translating text using google translate is by
translate sentence by sentence because the use of long sentences is only make google
generated translation structure not have good readability. Google translate can be
used, both for learning understanding vocabulary, sentence structure, and how to
pronounce words because of learning form linguistic errors is one way to be able to
understand vocabulary, structure words get better and know how to pronounce
English correctly.
