TY Week 5

Dear Diary
We had very long weekend this week because we didn’t have any school on
Monday!! All I did was read my books and it was very relaxing.
On Tuesday, participated in the second day of our dare to care mustard seed
programme. This time we started to learn about the Mary child home. This is a
place in Zimbabwe where young teen/teenager mothers go and take care of their
kids while also going to school. The youngest was a 12-year-old! We learned that
most of theses teenagers have been raped on the streets and then were kicked out of
their parents’ houses. They didn’t have anywhere to take care of their kids and
that’s why Mustard seed set up Mary’s Child. Then our teacher told us about the
house for teenage boys and how that house was set up for boys with a medical
disease passed down form their parents.
Wednesday morning, we had Media Studies where we started to learn about the
elements that go into making a magazine cover and then we began making our own
ones. We will continue them next week.
Next, we had politics and society where we continued researching about our
projects that we began last week. My group and I are doing great so far.
After break we had siamsa where we continued finishing our Irish worksheets. And
then on the Thursday’s class she began telling us about our project that we have to
complete, which was to design our own Irish Dancing dresses. We then began
doing them. You get to choose between colouring in one of the templates she
printed out or you can draw and design your own one. I started doing my own
design, and its going to look great.
Our last class was RSE where she put us into groups and we had to continue
talking about toxic and healthy relationships. It was fun to be in a different group
of people from my class.
Thursday morning we had French, where we finished off our small projects to
present the next day. Then in Friday’s French class I presented my project on The
Fashion in Quebec and it went great. Other people’s projects were amazing too.
Next, we had mathematics where we started to learn about scaling and we
completed a worksheet on the subject. It was interesting and a bit hard. We had to
measure the sides of a square or a rectangle and then scale it down.
After break we had Yoga where we first wrote to a person that we love or miss in
our lives. And then we did some mindfulness then we started on some yoga moves.
It was enjoyable.
Next came physics where we leaned about static and electricity. We even did an
experiment on a big ball that when you turn it on a take another small ball on a
stick and put it against the bigger one, you can see small streaks of electricity and it
makes your hair stick up. We then did the experiment where you blow up a balloon
and rub it against your hair and stick it on to a wall. That one didn’t work put that’s
ok. With the same balloon, we rubbed it against our head again and then we turned
on the tap and when you put the balloon near it, the water moves to the side. All of
the experiments were so cool.
Our last class of the day was our Jesuit refugee programme where we had to go
outside and take a photo of something we are grateful for. I took a photo of random
cars in the carpark because we have transport and we can go wherever we want but
refugees don’t have any transport and they only stay in one place. We also finished
our documentary from last week.
Friday morning had our Computer Studies ICDL class where I continued doing my
diagnostic test. I am almost done and it’s still going well.
Next, we had German where we started learning German numbers. Zwnzig (20).
We then learned how to describe our family. Ich habe ein shwester (I have one
sister). It was cool.
After break we had English where we started to do our writing tasks. I am going to
write a short story and a modern retailing of a fairytale. I started on my story and
it’s going great so far.
Next, we had PE where we completed some tasks that we didn’t do the last time.
My group and I did task like walking in a straight line with our eyes closed, which
was really difficult but it was fun. Last class of the day was choir and we continued
signing our song “Yesterday” by the beetles. It’s going well
I had a very relaxing week, lets see what happens next week.
