Communication makes us comprehend each other’s thoughts, attitudes, beliefs,

culture and feelings but for it to happen they,he,she, you and me in short we should know the
various strategies of communication. By knowing those strategies we can have an effective
communication process with the person we are conversing to. For instance its impact to our lives,
through such knowledge of the communication’s strategies I can improve my grammar when I
write essays and poems and can convey my message precisely, concisely and clearly to my
receiver. I can also be a good speaker as well as listener in a conversation or discussion. In addition,
I can improve my way of speaking when to use a high or low tone and to prevent myself from
hurting them unintentionally when I am conversing with others and I know what to do when my
audience seems uninterested of what I am trying to convey and I will do my best to encourage
them to lend their ears again. Lastly, I know when and where to start a conversation, know what
is the best channel to be utilized and most of all I can make the conversation to have a smooth
flow.

Communication has also functions but I’ll focus more discussing on mass
communication particularly its type, mass media. Mass media functions as a mode of entertainment
and persuasion. Entertainment is like giving fun to an individual to avoid anxiety and pessimistic
thoughts while persuasion is convincing someone to believe with your arguments and ideas. Mass
media as an entertainment give us various types of amusements as well as it makes our leisure time
enjoyable and keeps our minds free from negativities. Mass media functions as persuasion by
letting us doubt our own opinions and arguments towards a certain issue or product and makes us
alter our decisions.

There are also ethics in communication and it must be strictly followed to prevent
misunderstanding. The situation I wished I could reverse the communication process is during the
twenty fifth of August last year when my grandmother asked me if I had my monthly visit (she
was used to asking it), “Not yet”, I answered. The other day, she asked again the same question
and I answered “yes”. Afterwards, she found out that I lied to her because little do I know she went
to my room and discovered a bunch of pads unopened. Now, when she asks me things she always
doubt my answers even thou I am telling the truth, even to my cousins she’s doubting them.
Through this situation, I have learned a moral lesson in which I can apply in the future when I’ll
have a conversation with other people is to always tell the truth to your decoder or audience to
avoid committing unethically. Also, always think its effect to you, your relationship with the
person you’re communicating to, your audience and most of all to the society before doing or
saying anything. Lastly is to respect their feelings because you may hurt them without you knowing
it so as a result choose the words you are going to utter before speaking.
