Exercise 2.3 Rhetorical analysis

Corazon C. Aquino was the first woman who became the President of the
Philippines. She became the most prominent figure of the 1986 People Power
Revolution which ended the 20 year rule of President Ferdinand Marcos. She was
named Time magazine's Woman of the Year in 1986, before the joint session of
the United States Congress in September 18, 1986 she gave a speech. A speech
about what the Philippines experienced and speak about the truth. Cory wants to
talk about it, as a cry for help or to have alliance with America to lift our country
again because of what happened during those times when Marcos still ruling the
Philippines. During her speech she gave the facts about the experiences of the
Filipinos and it tells how we suffer from the hand of a dictator. It also speaks
about our billion-dollar debt, which successfully touch the heart of the listeners as
it employs emotional appeal to the people.

In her speech she first talked about the death of her husband, Ninoy Aquino
which for her, his death was the also the resurrection of our country again. To
have the courage and faith by which alone we could be free again. She talked about
the hardships of the people during the time when Marcos was still our president, to
fight for justice or rights as human being. Shares her experiences how she leads
people to finally live in democracy and explained the situation of the people
recovering after those times. She talked about the peace agenda and said blood
drawn with a lash shall not in our country that will be paid by blood drawn by the
sword but by the tearful joy of reconciliation. Believing that every argument can
be solved through peaceful talks and she even talked about our billion-dollar debt
that we never benefited since then. Throughout her speech, she shows how she
deeply cares for our country, she used her voice to tell the truth that strengthen
her credibility and appeal to ethos, as well as in building her argument as she
proposes to have alliance that helps to lift our country again for the new hope of
the generation.

The delivery of her speech was really informative because she tells
information about what happened to our country that time. She has a personal
stake in and first-hand experience with the problems that Philippines experienced.
She talks about the truth about the unrequited toil or bill that was been stolen
from us and never benefitted from the start. The peace agenda and on how we got
our freedom with democracy. She even persuade the people to be on her side as
she build new hope for our nation which always on the side of humanity. And that
proves herself as our new leader that time. She shows Filipinos and other listeners
what kind of heart she has who was ready to fight for human rights, peace, or
freedom and heal the wounds of our nation after our great agony during martial
law.

In summary, Corazon C. Aquino became a great leader of our country that

she will do everything just to lift our nation again. Proving that even she was just a
woman she can do something for a change. Her speech really talks about our
victory in getting what we want and that’s the democracy. And that persuades
other nation to be on our side, as we build or create hope, new chapter, and a new
beginning for a better nation. Nation which comprises justice, peace, equality and
understanding.
