4 Helpful rules for Discernment

Notes:
• That's why we pray, "Thy will be done." It's kind of core to being a saint.
• Because a lot of times, what God is counting on us to do is making the decision
ourselves.
• God has given us so much freedom. He's blessed us with so much. He's given
us wisdom and intellect. He's given us a will and he want us to use the intellect
and he wants us to use the will
• You have to ask four questions: The first question, Is this a good door? The
second question, is not only is this a good door, is this an open door? Third
question: Is this a wise door? Fourth question, if it is all those things, is this a
door that I want?
• We have to actually make decisions and take responsibility.

Reflection:
When I am in a dilemma on choosing something, I ask and pray, “Fiat voluntas
tua” that is a Latin phrase means “Your will be done.” I tend to ask God about what to do
next and what to choose since He is the All knowing one. He knows what’s good and bad
for me. But we know that when we pray, we cannot directly hear God’s voice saying that
“You will choose that since that is what I am preparing for you.” Instead, He gave us
intellect and wisdom to discern the good things that God has given to us to lead us to the
right path. As what Fr. Mike said, I also used those 4 questions in discerning whether to
decide on that choice or not. Just like what happened when I was Grade 7. I was invited
to be the representative of our school in Grade 7 as the Science quiz bee participant. At
first, I was doubtful since I am not really confident with my self at that time. Until I asked,
is this quiz bee good for me? Without hesitating, I said yes while reflecting on deciding
whether to accept their offer. I asked again to myself, Is this open for me. Well technically
yes since I am asked to be the participant, thus this is an opportunity. I also asked, is
participating this event is a wise choice that will enhance my skills? I also said yes to my
self since this is an academic related event. And the last thing I asked also to myself, is
this quiz bee what I want? At the first place, I am really into with quiz bee that is related
to science. Since then, I really want to participate any science quiz bee. Because of those
four questions, I am now confident to say that I accept the offer to be their participant on
the quiz bee. Miraculously, I am able to achieve the 7th place in the National Science and
Math quiz bee held at Baguio City. I am very thankful to God for giving such wonderful
opportunity. If I didn’t accept the offer, I may not achieve that greatest achievement I ever
had.
