3rd Grade Social Studies Holiday Traditions Lesson Plan

Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate an appreciation for a holiday that is


celebrated by another country or culture by sharing what is learned about the holiday
and creating unique symbols to represent the important components of the holiday.

Materials:
● My Holiday Traditions Worksheet
● Powerpoint
● Computer
● Internet Access
● Whiteboard
● Dry Erase markers
● Book: What Do You Celebrate?: Holidays and Festivals Around the World

Beginning Lesson:
1. As a class, brainstorm various Holidays traditions that students have. Write each
tradition on the whiteboard.
2. Read the Book: Let’s Celebrate: Special Days Around the World
3.
4. Hand out My Holiday Traditions Worksheet.
a. Give Students time to fill out worksheets
5. Teach class how to make a PowerPoint with a different slide answering each
question on the My Holiday Traditions Worksheet utilizing pictures and
animations.
6. Students will have time in class to use the computer lab to create their
powerpoints.
7. Upon completion each student will present their PowerPoint traditions to the
class.
