Homework #2 (4%)

1. Problem 1.25 from the textbook (Smits)

2. Problem 2.32 from the textbook (Smits). [Note that I assigned Problem 2.39
from the textbook in Monday class. The problem is too difficult for the
homework. Please work on Problem 2.32 and abandon Problem 2.39.]
3. From the figure below (The relation between temperature and altitude of the
standard atmosphere), find the expression for pressure in isothermal layer
(stratosphere) in terms of p2, T1 and z1 (pressure, temperature and altitude at
the beginning of stratosphere).

4. The manometer (filled with water) in the figure below is mounted to the
nozzle to measure the pressure difference (hence velocity) at two different
sections (section 1 and 2). Find
a. if p1 is greater than, equal to or less than p2,
b. if h = 2 cm, what the p1 -p2 is.
