Chapter III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the techniques and methods employed in the conduct of the study.

This compromises of research design, research locale, research population and subject of the

study, sampling design and procedures, research instrument, gathering procedure, and statistical

treatment.

Research Design

The descriptive method of research will be used in this study, which consists of the

analysis, description, recording and interpretation of the present nature, composition or process

of existing phenomena.

The distribution of questionnaires will be used in this study, wherein the researchers will

be giving out the questionnaires to their respondents. Sampling technique that will be utilized in

this study is simple random sampling among the BSN IV Batch 2012 MSEUF students.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted at the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Lucena,

located at University Site Village, Brgy. Ibabang Dupay Red-v, Lucena City. There are 12

departments in the university and one of this is the College of Nursing and Allied Health

sciences where the research will be conducted. There are approximately 577 students in the

nursing department, particularly the BSN Level IV Batch 2012 students which are a convenient

locale for the research.

The distribution of questionnaires will be administered during their free time in the

respective classrooms of the respondents.

Research Population and Subject of the Study

The research involved 80 respondents from the selected BSN IV Batch 2012 students.

The respondents will be chosen on the basis of their knowledge of the information desired. The

researchers will be selecting BSN IV students as our respondents because they are the student

nurses who experience to be in operating room.

Design and Procedures

The researcher will be using simple random sampling wherein the selection is done on

random basis of elements from the sampling frame. It is based on identified variables under

consideration that they had been exposed to the operating room. The use for this simple random

sampling is to gain an unbiased conclusion in the subject of the study.

Research Instrument

The researcher will be preparing a questionnaire as a primary tool in data gathering. The

questionnaire is divided into six parts: Part 1 is the demographic profile, Part 2 will be composed

of the Perceived Stressors inside the Operating Room, Part 3 will be centered on the Physiologic

Aspect Felt inside the Operating Room, Part 4will be asking for the Behavioral Aspect Felt

inside the Operating Room, Part 5 will be centered on the Psychological Aspect Felt inside the

Operating Room, and the last part will be focusing on the Emotional Aspect Felt inside the

Operating Room.
The researchers will also rely on books, magazines, newspapers and other related source

pertinent to this study. Verbal interviews will also be conducted to establish the credibility of the

study and confirm thoughts of the researchers.

Gathering Procedure

The research constructed a questionnaire used in gathering the needed data from the

respective respondents. The researchers asked permission to conduct the research from the Dean

of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Suggestions given by experts were

incorporated in the revised version of the questionnaires. Upon the approval of the adviser, the

researchers distributed the questionnaires to the respondents. They were given ample time to

answer the instrument. After the retrieval of the questionnaire they were tallied and tabulated in

the forms of graphs and tables and were treated statistically.

Statistical Treatment

This part introduces the statistical treatment used in interpreting the data gathered. The

data gathered are subjected to various statistical treatments for analysis and interpretation. The

five point scale was used in the interpretation and analysis of the gathered data and the following

tools were employed. The final values of the statistical data were obtained by using Microsoft

Excel and its statistical tools.

1. Weighted arithmetic Mean

WM= Weighted Mean

WF= sum of the products of the frequency and weight wam=∑(WF)

n= number of respondents n
2. Percentage

P= f/n x 100

Wherein P= percentage

F= frequency

N= total number of respondents

3. Ranking

4. Point Scale

For the interpretation of results of the computations for the weighted mean, the

following point scale was adopted:

Assigned Values Range Interpretation

4 3.26-4.00 Strongly Felt
3 2.51-3.25 Moderately Felt
2 1.76-2.50 Mildly Felt
1 1.00-1.75 Not Felt
