About FMCG Industry

India's fourth-largest household and personal care segment are the fast-moving consumer
goods (FMCG) sector, accounting for 50 percent of FMCG sales in India. The main growth
drivers for the sector have been increasing awareness, easier access and changing lifestyles.
The urban segment (approximately 55 percent revenue share) is the largest contributor to
India's overall revenue generated by the FMCG sector. In the last few years, however, the
FMCG market in rural India has risen faster compared to urban India. The semi-urban and rural
segments are rising rapidly, with FMCG goods accounting for 50% of total rural expenditure.
India's retail market is projected to reach US$ 1.1 trillion by 2020, up from US$ 840 billion in
2017, with modern trade anticipated to rise by 20% to 25% annually, which is likely to raise
FMCG companies' revenue. In FY18, FMCG industry revenue reached Rs. 3.4 lakh crore (US$
52.75 billion) and is expected to reach US$ 103.7 billion in 2020. In 2020, the FMCG market was
projected to rise by 9-10 percent.
