Pursuit of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness movie is about a man who is exceptionally persevering

to reach his happiness successfully. Chris Gardner doesn’t have any fixed home. At first,
he lived with his family and sold portable bone-density scanners to doctors. However,
this condition wasn’t satisfactory anymore since the money wasn’t enough and selling
portable-bone density scanner had been very difficult because of a new invention that
was more valuable than the portable bone-density scanner. Thus, his financial condition
drove him to get a new job.

Because of his financial condition, his girlfriend Linda left him and moved to New
York City. Her relative gave her a chance to work at her relatives’ restaurant. Aware at
this fact, Chris Gardner was saddened but he had no choice because his condition was
also unfortunate. He then asked Linda not to bring their son Christopher because he
believed he was more capable of taking good care of him.

When he sold the scanner, he met manager Dean Witter who offered internship
program for stockbroker. He successfully impressed him by solving the Rubik’s Cube in
short time while they were on a cab. Since he had no money, and Dean Witter left, he
tried to escape and run to the subway. He did it but he eventually lost his scanner.

Chris Gardner was arrested and put into jail because of parking tickets. When he
got out of jail, he rushed to the company of Dean Witter raggedly dressed yet he
successfully convinced the managers for the internship. He and his son became
homeless when his financial condition cut down when the bank took his money for the
unpaid taxes. They found a homeless shelter and had to be in line in order to get in.
Because of the limited capacity of the room, Chris Gardner managed his work time to
become efficient. During his time at work, he took his son into a daycare. When his
work is over, he took his son to be in line in order to be in the homeless shelter. This
condition always happened repeatedly in a few days. In turning point, they stayed in
the bathroom at subway station.

After this condition, he maximized his time. Competing with other competitor to
get the internship stockbroker, he made his time more and more efficient. He worked
more than the other competitors, jumped over the line. As a result, after six months in
the training, his managers called him and offered the position. This made him very
happy which made him run to his son’s daycare. He hugged his son Christopher and
walked with happiness. At the end, Chris became rich and had his own brokerage firm.

All of the scenes were told about struggling. How a person has to achieve his
dream through many processes and must not give up easily. The inspirational movie
told us that we cannot stop and just give it up. We must think a possible way to resolve
our problem. When his girlfriend left him, he took the risk of taking the internship
program regardless of the fact that he wouldn’t be paid. Considering he had no job at
that time and selling portable bone-density scanner was very difficult, he stayed and
never left his son. Consequentially, he stayed with his son on the bathroom at the
subway station. It was also a turning point, when he had to find a homeless shelter and
maximize his time to get in line for a limited room.

I can personally say that Chris Gardner is a very good father who is responsible
and affectionate. Despite the pressure in life and the fact that he had to maximize his
time, he still managed to have time for his son. Knowing that his son might be bored
and there is no one except him that can make him happy, they played basketball while
selling the scanner downtown. Also in the homeless shelter, he was still taking good
care of his son, taking him to bath, and warming him with blanket when asleep.

Some people might be thinking that it is impossible to make their dream comes
true which makes them wrong. The person believing that he cannot do it is already
considered failure. I believe that mind is the most powerful weapon a person can have.
Possessing a weak mind makes a weak person but having a powerful mind makes a
person unstoppable and does great things. I believe that a person does not achieve his
dream when he believes that he cannot do it and when they do not put great effort to
reach their dreams. Some of the people wish an easy path towards success but I
believe that there is no such thing. I believe that everything has its price and the
person must work hard to buy it. How humorous and peculiar it is that some of the
people rely and believe on fate which I believe makes them lazy. Everything must have
an effort in order to get something.

The movie also made me realize that there is no one who would save me during
bad times but only myself. Chris Gardner was successful in the end with his great effort
only. He did not rely on someone to help him and do the hard things for him. He chose
to act, think and believe by himself. Chris Gardner is an example of an independent
man who can stand up on his own.

One important factor into achieving success is determination. Determination is

the essence of increasing the chances of being successful in achieving a person’s goal.
It helps a dreamer to stay motivated and continue striving towards success. Without
determination, it can lead a person to give up and lose focus on what he really wanted.

Every person has their own dream. The matter is only how they still keep their
dream comes true and how long they can hold out the pressure and the way how to
make it. There is one wise word that I still rely on. If you have a dream, keep it in your
heart, don’t let the people break your dream, then reach it until you can cry with a
smile how you reach it.

Life is hard. Sometimes, it’s unfair or ill-fated which makes most of the people
feel miserable and hopeless. The character of Chris Gardner proves that no matter how
hard life is or how big the challenges and complications in life, quitting would never
contribute towards success. I am personally in awe as Chris Gardner managed to
survive those difficult phases he encountered for he did not chose to quit, vice, die or
other negative actions that most people do. Chris Gardener a man of determination
chose to resolve all the misfortunes and think a way out of the confusing labyrinth.

This plot makes me realized that my effort to reach my dream have not total yet.
I still keep beefing and hopeless. It is like reflection, how my effort to get my dream
has to be more and more powerful. I cannot stay and just keep slacking. I have to
move on and don’t let the people break my dream.
