for one thing the information regarding the occurrence in the local environment may affect public’s decisions
on their plans or daily activities for work study or leisure. weather forecast on TV news or newspapers for
instance, provides some clues or reference to readers or viewers for the choice of their proper clothes and the
arrangement of outdoor activities are itineraries during a trip similarly the latest government policies
regulations and laws. published on newspapers or TV are inextricably linked to civilians’ personal interests
such as the social welfare that they are entitled to and the civil obligation that they have to abide by for
another. even the happenings in another continent can be influential due to the ongoing globalization an
overseas outbreak of an epidemic seems geographically distant yet the highly contagious viruses can rapidly
spread worldwide due to the frequently essential or non-essential international flights prompted by modern
long-distance transport such as airplanes cruise ships or trains. The blunts of disasters ranging from natural
ones such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to man-made ones such as wars on foreign regions could also
lead to a butterfly effect on the global economy as well as the supply and shipment of diverse commodities
including consumer goods and daily necessities For these reasons acquiring up-to-date information from
newspapers or TV for timely precautions is crucial to prevent loss and hence can be justified.

Even for the news that is not closely related to people's interest knowing it may not be time wasting as long as

could hardly affect people’s life quality but does provide ideal common topics for them to have a chat and

information reported is admittedly far from the majority's core daily routines yet helps broaden their scope of
general knowledge and better shape their cognition of the world the latest scientific findings in archaeology
and astronomy. for example enable readers or TV viewers to picture how the ancestral lifestyles were like and
the infinite possibilities in the vast universe while some interviews or criticism of famous politicians and
entrepreneurs provide their public insights into some unprecedented events and even profound reflection of
beauty and ugliness of humanity to name but two.

All in all even though some news does not show direct connection with people's lives this does not mean that
everything reported on newspapers and TV news is irrelevant and meaningless learning what is happening
around us and the world is not only not time-wasting but actually informatively beneficial.
