A New Beginning as an Observer

Day 1

A new opportunity means a fresh start and all the wonderful possibilities new

beginnings bring. It is a great day to start my beginning day as an observer. I can’t wait to

witness new strategies, techniques, and approaches that teacher will use in their classes.

First on the line is Ma’am Merian Villegas’ class. I’m so glad to see her again but this

time, we can see each other virtually. She started the class with a warm greeting to

everyone. Followed by a prayer, the class seemed ready to gain new learning for today. How

are you there, and how being you here happened before the discussion. It seemed everyone

missed their classmates and teacher a lot.

Ma’am Merian motivates the students by giving them a guessing game. This game

provides what the lesson will be for this day. All students participated in this game and

seemed fulfilled with joy and added learning. As the class progresses, the topic Noun was

presented. Even though the set up of the class is far different from before, I can still see the

eagerness of Ma’am Merian to impart and deliver the lesson for the students to learn

something for today. I guess that every day should be a learning journey.

I could see clearly some factors that affects the class. Noticing the noises

surrounding everyone’s place, it hinders the communication really badly. That is why, Ma’am

Merian asked a permission to everyone to please mute their microphone unless they are

called to say something. Internet issue is also a factor affecting this online class, but

thankfully, all the participants were able to handle great internet connection at their places.

The class ended as Ma’am Merian gave thanks to everyone including the observers for their

willingness to witness and observe this kind of online set up. Cheer up, everyone!

SECOND DAY OF OBSERVATION

Day 2

Today is a great start to enter the class with joy and happiness. This is my second

day of observation. My classmates and I are assigned to observe in the class of Ma’am

Ethel, one of the generous teachers of Cavite State University – Silang Campus.

I could not imagine how hard it is to work or teach if front of a web camera. I can say

that today’s way of teaching is really challenging for every teacher. Ma’am Ethel started the

class with a good morning phrase, having smile on her face and teary-eyed because of joy.

After giving a warm greeting to everyone, Ma’am Ethel started to check if all the students are

present this day. I am amazed that her class is all present and seemed really excited to have

their lesson.

Proceeding further, a recapitulation of their last lesson is evident. Each student had

their time to give their sentiments, ideas, and added information about their previous

discussion. Everyone seemed fulfilled with learnings and open for new one. As I move my

eyes to each person involved in online class, I can surely say that internet connection is a

must. I enjoyed the online class as Ma’am Ethel provided an impactful information about

their lesson, Footnote to Youth; a very timely issue nowadays.

The next class is Ma’am Leah Esquillo’s. She had her strategy as same as Ma’am

Ethel’s. Knowing these two gorgeous teachers well, they will sacrifice a lot just to give the

best learning for their students. Kudos to both of them. Ma’am Leah gave a precise and

interesting way of delivering her lesson, Figure of Speech, as all the students were actively

participating and giving their insights about the said topic. I can’t wait to see Ma’am Leah to

show her enthusiastic vibes again in her other classes.

The third class that we observed is the class of Ma’am Kristena Ditan, my favorite

teacher of Cavite State University – Silang Campus. All majors including the BEEd, Bio, and

Mathematics, were all present just to witness the class of this outstanding person we are

looking up to. Everyone including her class was excited to hear another lesson that Ma’am

Ditan is going to give. A refreshing review of the lesson, 7 Ages of Man, gave an impactful

shot to the hearts of every present in her class. It is clearly and unquestionable that Ma’am

Ditan is one of the greatest pioneers of the said school. Proceeding forward, a new topic is

being discussed. Lesson about Modals was clearly digested by the students. An activity was

given at the end of the discussion.

Lastly, we observed Ma’am Maria Clarisse Penus’ class. This one is really interesting

because she gave a really nice delivery of the topic, Considerations in Choosing and

Preparing Vegetables. She was the only teacher who gave a video presentation as an

energizer for the students. Indeed, TLE subject made us hungry as the discussion

progresses.

My day as an observer teaches me to strive more in the field of teaching especially in

today’s online class. I can’t wait to see myself experiencing this new kind of challenge.

ANOTHER FACE OF EXCITEMENT

Day 3

“Learn to use your third eye and you’ll be able to see beyond the sky. There is no

limit, except that which you impose upon yourself.” This a great motivation for the third day

of my observation. I would like to see another face of excitement as this day progress into

another world of online class.

We started the observation in the class of Ma’am Merian Villegas. Just like in her

previous class, she still used the same strategy for the discussion. I guess involving

students’ participation is a must in every discussion. Evidently and clearly delivered, the

class ended with a new possibility and a face full of learning.

The second class if with Ma’am Criselda Vertudez, a cool teacher with a big heart.

Joining her Grade 7 students, Ma’am Cris teaches us another topic about Hetero and

Homogenous Mixture. She started with a class motivation, playing a rap video presentation

about mixtures. All students, including the observers were all amazed and fascinated about

the video watched. I can notice evidently the active participation of all the students inside the

online class. In the end, Ma’am Criselda gave the class an activity about the said topic. The

class ended with a smile filled with satisfaction and eagerness to learn more next week.

Proceeding to the third class for this day, we entered Ma’am Leah Esquillo’s. All are

present including other majors for this observation. I can say that all observers have their

excitement to learn new strategy in this challenging set up. I can see the face of Ma’am Leah

having an eagerness to share new lesson for the class. Even though this one is a Filipino

subject, Ma’am Leah is evidently prepared for this. She started the discussion with a video

presentation about the Life of Job. A video about deep faith to God. An active class

discussion revolves around the online class of Ma’am Leah. I could not help myself to think
of the thought me being there, in front of the faces of different students. I can’t wait to see

myself experiencing this fulfilling privilege. The class ended successfully without having

internet issues.

Proceeding to the last class, it is my first-time observing Sir Rafael Mendoza, one of

my colleagues in Cavite State University – Silang Campus. He teaches Grade 9 students

with a subject of TLE3. Sir Raffy started the discussion with recapitulation of their previous

lesson. The students were able to give their learning and sentiments about the said previous

topic which is Needlecraft. As the discussion moves further, he opens another topic about

Embroidery. An evident product of Cavite State University – Silang Campus describes Sir

Raffy as he delivers the lesson really brain-catchy. The class lasted for almost hour and a

half.

The Day to Last

Day 4

I could not imagine that I am on my last day of observation. After my work, I drive

home fast just to attend the class of Ma’am Ethel Vicente. The class started at exactly 8 in

the morning. She presents to class a new topic about Verbal and Non-Verbal Signals Used

in Communication. This topic does not surprise me much because thinking back, we already

had this. As always, Ma’am Ethel delivers a well-planned execution of her lesson for the

class. I salute teachers who prepare and take teaching really seriously. Indeed, teaching is a

work of heart.

Moving on, I witness again the class of Ma’am Leah Esquillo as she continues to

teach the discussion about Figures of Speech. She adds more information including other

types and examples of each. Later on, she calls the attention of every student present in the

online class to give their own set of examples to see clearly if they understand the lesson

well. I am amazed and really surprised to the Grade 7 of this semester. They are all

participative and shows willingness to learn new topics and lessons. In the end, the class

went successful as all, including the observers, had a great time watching and listening to

this memorable discussion.

The next class is indeed an exciting one because this is my first time to see Ma’am

Airam Dacanay-Bautista to teach. Her subject for today is Araling Panlipunan. As she starts

the class, a recapitulation of the previous lesson is done. Most students click the raised hand

button to give their learnings about the previous topic. As Ms. Airam presents the new topic,

Pagkilala sa Karapatang Pantao, she asks for forgiveness because her place of work is

prone to noise especially to vehicular noises. I realized that one factor to consider in

teaching online is the place of work. Teachers need to have a quiet place for work so that

students will hear the discussion really well.

Lastly, my observation ends to Ma’am Clarisse Penus with a subject of TLE4. Her

new lesson for today’s class is Preparing Eggs and Cereal Dishes. She starts the class with

a warm greeting for everyone. Once again, TLE subject made us hungry as the discussion

progresses. Before the class ends, Ma’am Penus played an activity for the students.

Everyone enjoyed the discussion and left the class with smiles in their faces.

With this, I can say that the COVID-19 situation created a scenario when all of this is

said and done, we will not be able to look the world the same way again. Same goes to

education as I see that through these experiences, institutions will explore the possibility of

improving their environments towards the delivery of online learning and classes.

The experiences also made people unite, be more resilient and hopefully adopt the

new direction in which education can be disseminated to its target learners. The future is

already at hand, let us take advantage of these powerful tools to make better individuals of

tomorrow.
