1. Based on your opinion, which among the theories on the origin of life would you believed
as true?
I believe that the most possible theory of the origin of life may be the theory wherein
life on Earth descended from the Last Universal Common Ancestor since the theory of
evolution is second to be considered. It suggests that we came from one single-celled
organism which later explains how the certain criteria to be fulfilled such as order,
growth and development and etc. needs to be completed for life to start and when it does,
this is when the survival of the fittest comes in handy since evolution is needed to sustain
life. Hence, I consider it the most possible theory.

2. Research on threatened species that are endemic to the Philippines that have gone extinct
or are critically endangered. Discuss the reason(s) why this species become extinct or
critically endangered.
As we face the new era of facing the same and reoccurring problem of critically
endangered species that are endemic to our country, we may as well recognize the
CUT threats to the Philippine Eagle and Pangolins, the Tamaraw and the Tarsier. These
endemic species face the same problem as human activities hinder their reproduction
HERE---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and even disrupts their efforts to sustain life. The following are the reasons as to why
---------------------------------------------------------------
these species are facing extinction:
Philippine Eagle- it is a critically endangered specie since hunting and deforestation
threatens its remaining 400 breathens.
Tamaraw- same as the Philippine Eagle, hunting and habitat degradation are the reasons
why tamaraws are critically endangered.
Tarsier- the reason why they are endangered are illegal pet trade and habitat destruction.
Philippine Pangolins- illegal poaching and habitat destruction.

3. What are the connections between human activities and species extinctions? How might
these be addressed?
Since these critically endangered species are endemic in our country, it is very
hard to reproduce them through natural and even artificial reproduction. The efforts of
the governing bodies to maintain their population will be impossible if we are unable to
surpass the rate of their decrease primarily caused by human activities such as
deforestation, illegal poaching, illegal pet trade and failure to secure their safety after
their release from rehabilitation. What we should do since we are already implementing
laws protecting them and still facing these problems, we must double our efforts on
reproducing them and keeping them safe from artificial habitats until we secure that
these illegal human activities no longer poses as a threat towards their existence.

4. Research on examples and cases of human activities threatening biodiversity in your local
community/local context. Propose solutions on a personal, community/local, and
national level.

Unit 3.2 STS | Origin of life, Biodiversity and Healthy Society

Magallanes is an island rich of marine life. However, this natural resource is only
second to the reason why our municipality grow from time to time since our economy
relies to the three companies sustaining work for our townspeople. We are currently
facing fewer catches because of the pollutants the three companies release in our waters.
Aside from oil leaks, I believe that we could not fully stop the companies for it is the
primary source of income of our people, what we could only do is to minimize their
secretion through getting help from the Municipal DENR to call out their environmental
destructive activity so that our waters would once again be able to sustain life. In doing
these, we can somehow ameliorate the spike of the prices of marine livestocks since their
supply would be great again once our waters are healed.
