ANNUAL SPONSORSHIP SCHEME FOR COMMUNITY


PROJECTS
GRANT APPLICATION

I- INTRODUCTION

1. Unilever Pakistan Limited

Unilever’s Vision, “We work to create a better future every day. We help people
feel good, look good and get more out of life with brands and services that are good
for them and good for others. We will inspire people to take small everyday actions
that can add up to a big difference for the world. We will develop new ways of doing
business with the aim of doubling the size of our company while reducing our
environmental impact” enables us explore avenues of sustainable
development and support programmes that will assist us in living by
our vision. Our actions are firmly grounded in respect for
communities and the environment - adding vitality to the world we
touch.

Unilever’s Corporate Purpose states – “To succeed requires the

consumers and the societies and world in which we live. This is our
road to sustainable, profitable growth for our business and long-
term value creation for our shareholders and employees.”

Unilever Pakistan is committed to integrating business as a part of


society, and the Company actively engages in initiatives that
improve the quality of life, particularly of the lesser privileged
members of our society. The Company’s dedication to Corporate
Social Responsibility stems from its core values, business principles
and commitment to improving the community in which it operates.
The objective is to enter into initiatives that are sustainable and
contribute to social development and long term environmental
management

2. Annual Grant Scheme for Community Projects

Unilever Pakistan launched its Annual Grant Schemes in 2008 for


community projects. This is an annual program to make a positive
contribution to the improvement of living standard of the Pakistani
people and to bring to reality Unilever’s Vision about creating a
better future everyday.

With the main focus on hygiene, nutrition and economic


sustainability Unilever Pakistan Limited will sponsor organizations
working on initiatives or projects in these areas. Eligible
organizations should demonstrate their full commitment and
determination to completely deliver the target outcomes of their
project.
Annual Scheme:

Each year Unilever will sponsor 5-10 projects of Rs. 100,000 –


250,000 each. Applications will be accepted from February – June
2011. The key areas and scope of funding are given below. Any
project outside the scope and criteria will automatically disqualify.
Funding announcements will be made in August, 2011.

3. Key areas

a. Hygiene

Unilever promotes good personal, domestic and oral hygiene.


Unilever Pakistan conducts many brand initiated hygiene activities,
of which, Lifebuoy “Healthy Hoga Pakistan” and Surf “Dirt is Good”
are two excellent examples.

Projects related to personal hygiene and habitat sanitary will be


short listed for Unilever funding.

b. Nutrition

Nutrition is an important area of emphasis for promoting a healthy


society. Blue Band has partnered with United Nation World Food
Program (UN WFP) to promote healthy nutrition in children.

In Pakistan malnutrition rate is sky rocketing. Institutions having


proposals to promote healthy nutrition in children and pregnant
women will be considered.

c. Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development requires us to examine all aspects of our


business from sourcing raw materials to consumer use and product
disposal.

Unilever is currently supporting sustainability initiatives related to


Agriculture, Water and Greenhouse Gasses. Unilever Pakistan has
been promoting productivity and sustainability initiatives on water
availability and conservation.

Consideration will be given to projects touching sustainable


initiatives related to Agriculture, Water and Greenhouse Gases.
4) Selection criteria

All projects, programs, and initiatives will be selected based on the


following criteria:

a. The projects are directed from recognized institutions and


NGOs. The funds will not be provided to an individual or a
group.

b. A detailed budgeting for the allocation of funds is mandatory


and it has to be submitted to Unilever with the application

c. The institutions must have a certification from a recognized


body i.e. Pakistan Center of Philanthropy or government
bodies etc.

d. The institutions must have NTN number or tax exemption


certificates to verify their financial modalities. It is mandatory
to submit a copy of the NTN number or tax exemption
certificate.

e. Funding will be give to the projects in the area of hygiene,


nutrition and sustainable development.

f. National outreach will be an additional advantage.

5) Terms & Conditions

1. A formal agreement will be signed between the parties before


the funding is done.

2. The schedule of payments will be indicated in the letter of


grant. If more than one institution is involved in a project or
service, payments will be made to the lead institution. It is the
responsibility of the lead institution to disburse the funds to its
project partners.

3. Payment is conditional upon satisfactory progress with


milestones and deliverables. The institution and its partners
must supply deliverables and core project documents on
schedule or subsequent payments may be withheld.
4. At the end of the project, any unspent funds should be
returned to Unilever Pakistan unless a formal agreement is
reached with Unilever about how these funds may be spent to
further support the work of the project.

5. Unilever Pakistan undertakes evaluation of its development


projects and programmes to ensure that knowledge and
results are shared with the wider community and to improve
the development programme itself
6. The institution and its partners are also required to undertake
evaluation of their work as part of the overall project plan and
report on evaluation results in progress reports and the final
report.

7. Project must promote equal opportunities for gender, race,


religion, etc.

8. Due to the magnitude of requests received, the company


cannot respond favorably to all the requests. Further, the
grants are made without any commitment for future support
of projects.

9. Unilever Pakistan Limited reserves all rights to reject


applications without complete supporting documents (NTN /
Tax exemption certificates). Any acceptance to applications
from NGOs with out tax exemption certificates will be purely
on the bases of community impact the project may have.
However, these applicants will be subjected to Tax deduction
as per law and Unilever Pakistan Limited policies.

6) Time Lines and Procedures

1. The Forms will only be available on the Unilever Pakistan


website from February 2011 to June 2011.
2. Interested Applicants (registered NGOs only) may apply
through the available form during this time.
3. Project Proposals will be judged by a selected panel of judges
in July.
4. A list of selected Projects will be posted the Unilever Pakistan
website in the first week of August. Applicants are required to
visit the website in mid August to view their application status.
5. NGOs responsible for the selected proposals will be required
to down load the following documents from the website, print
the filled documents on their letter heads and mail to Unilever
Pakistan Limited Head Office within 2 weeks (after the
accepted proposal list has been posted)

6. The payment will be made with in one month of Unilever
Pakistan Limited receiving the required Documents (mid
September).
