The House of Commons and Senate chambers of Canada's Parliament are located on unceded traditional

Omàmiwininiwak (Algonquin) territory, making this action a reoccupation of a traditional homeland. The
cops sought to remove the protestors when the tepee was being built. However, security officials quickly
changed their minds and allowed them to relocate to a more central place near the main stage, in the
shadow of the Peace Tower.

Even as official national ceremonies remembering that history—which had so failed Indigenous peoples
in the past—the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, met with Indigenous activists in the tepee to
listen to their concerns.
