WOOD STAINING WITH ANILINE DYE

Keda Dye o ers application tips on wood staining and applying dye stain with our hybrid aniline dye. Use these
wood staining tips to get the look you want for your wood piece by following our easy instructions. These tips
should be followed after properly mixing dyes.

ANILINE DYES APPLICATION TIPS

The aniline dyes in our kits are a ordable and well known for highlighting wood grains and leaving a clean,
vibrant nish. Test your dye stain and wood sealer on a scrap piece of wood to determine your complete color
outcome, as well as gaining a better understanding on how Keda wood dyes will apply to wood for best result.
To apply, sand the entire wood surface with 150-grit to 180-grit sandpaper and wipe the area clean after you’re
nished. Use fresh dye stains to ensure fade resistance and best results for dye colors.
Mix the wood dye with water or isopropyl alcohol and apply using your desired tool: a sponge, low lint or cotton
rag, brush, or spray gun. Be sure to saturate areas thoroughly. Let wood dye products penetrate wood for 2-7
minutes in order to achieve rich, deep color. The longer the dye stain is left to penetrate the wood, the deeper
the color. Do not let it dry thoroughly without wiping o excess stain, unless it’s intended. as this could leave
behind lap lines.

THE FINISHING TOUCH

To remove excess dye while wood staining, lightly wipe the dye stain saturated wood surface with a clean, lint-
free cloth. Allow the stain to fully dry. If desired, apply an additional coat(s). When the desired color is achieved,
burnish the fully dried and dyed wood with a clean, lint-free towel to prepare the surface for sealing and prevent
any excess dye from transferring into the sealer. Please note, the wood sealer will have a deepening a ect on
the wood stained area. It is perfectly normal for wood dye to have a dull look to the wood coloring when the dye
stain has dried.

In any worst case scenario, the wood can be salvaged again by sanding the dried wood staining dye o with a
heavy grit sandpaper so bare wood is exposed again. Follow up by sanding the wood with 150-180 grit
sandpaper until smooth, and start the wood staining process again.
SEALING INFORMATION
We recommend using a UV protecting wood sealer over the dried stain of Keda wood dye products in order to
o er the best stain color protection. However, when Keda Dye is used as an interior stain, or items that will not
be in direct outdoor sunlight for extended periods of time, a simple lacquer, or other indoor wood sealer will
su ce to assist in protecting the wood coloring. If you choose not to use a UV sealer, the color can still last for
quite a long time, provided you keep the wood nishes out of direct sunlight for repeated daily exposure. When
applying the rst seal coat, we recommend applying a very light, thin coat with minimal rubbing and then let it
dry. A light dusting from a spray version of the wood sealer will lock the dyes into the wood the best without
disturbing the dried wood staining. This will seal the wood dyes and help prevent any possible reactions, which
is somewhat rare if light and gentle on the rst coat.

Apply subsequent coats of wood sealer according to the manufacturer's recommendations. After the sealer
cures, follow up with wet sanding and polishing for mirror like nish if desired.
