ABOUT THIS PROGRESSION

This progression is in F# minor. It has an open sound and will work

well as a basis for Trap music or a darker Hip Hop style.

Below is the progression and the scales that will work with each

WHAT’S IN THIS PACK

1. MIDI FILES
All velocity data has been left in these files. This is for a more realistic
and natural sound when using these MIDI files on a virtual
instrument. You’ll find one melody example and the chord
progression in all 12 keys.

Don’t be afraid to tweak the rhythm and velocities of the MIDI files.
Chord changes happening on different beats and at different
volumes will add texture and interest to your track.

1.1 ALTERNATIVE KEYS

There is far more to a chord progression than just placing chords in
their root position and in an order. Voice leading is a skill that all
producers should master.

Don’t worry if this sounds complicated or time consuming. The

chords in this pack have been played using different voicings
depending on the key you’re in.

What might sound good in one key, will sound too thin in a higher
key and too muddy in a lower key if simply transposed. Therefore,
the voicings have been been changed depending on the key you
choose.

2. SAMPLES
In case you don’t have access to any MIDI instruments, 3 audio
samples have been included in this pack. They are played on
different keyboard instruments. In this pack they are as follows:

1. Upright Piano Chords

2. Upright Piano Melody
3. Guitar Melody
All samples are recorded in the original key of F# minor, at 107bpm,
and exported at 44.1Khz and 24bit. You can easily change the pitch
and tempo of any sample using your DAW (such as FL Studio,
Ableton, Logic Pro X etc).

You will find the samples have been separated into two folders.

1. Loops - 4 bar samples you can loop continuously.

2. Tail Ends/One Shots - Samples that ring out such as at the end of
a progression where you may want the reverb to continue on and
decay naturally after the chord has finished.

Feel free to chop up and use elements of these samples to create

original music that is unique to you!

3. DRUM LOOPS
There are 2 free drum loops in this pack. These are intended to give
you inspiration as to how the chords could work with a beat.

SCALES
As you will have seen, included in this PDF are scales, so you can
create your own original melodies. Each scale has been selected so
that you can be safe in the knowledge that any notes you choose
from the scale, will work with the given chord.

It’s important not to be bound by these notes though! If you think

another note sounds good, then the chances are, it probably does,
even if it’s not in the scale. The suggested scales are just a starting
point to set you on your way.
