AUTUMN

Autumn is one of the four temperate seasons, often known as fall in North
American English. Outside of the tropics, autumn marks the transition from
summer to winter, occurring around September (Northern Hemisphere) or
March (Southern Hemisphere), when the length of sunshine decreases
substantially and the temperature drops significantly. As the season
continues until the Winter Solstice in December (Northern Hemisphere) and
June (Southern Hemisphere), day duration drops and night length rises
(Southern Hemisphere). The loss of leaves from deciduous trees is one of
its primary characteristics in temperate regions.
