Good Day Sir!

My name is Ryan Papasin - Electrical Technology Evening Student.

Today I will discuss the relationship between science, technology and society.

To find out the proper relation between science, technology and society, one must
have a clear understanding about each of them first.

Science is a system of acquiring knowledge based on proper methods in order to

organize the body of knowledge gained through research. Technology is the
practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area. It refers to
tools and machines that may be used to solve real-world problems. And society, or
a human society, is a group of people related to each other through persistent
relations.

Science is the backbone of technology. Technology fuels the advancement of

societies. Science informs technological breakthroughs. We rely on the power of
science to develop new technologies. If not through the theories from the different
areas of science, we wouldn’t have enjoyed the many advanced technologies that we
have today. For example, the computer. Because of the computer, technology has also
evolved. Because of it, our lives became easier. And because of it, we made the
impossible possible.

Infrastructures in society have developed with the help of science and

technology. The modern technologies that we are using today, especially those in
terms of communication, were made possible because of scientific studies.
Throughout history, science has paved the way for all different advances in our
society. Society drives technological change, while changing technologies in turn
shape society. Science helps us understand how our world functions and why things
happen in specific ways, while technology provides new tools to help us explore
scientific discoveries and apply them for the advancement of the society.

The relationship between technology and science is reciprocal. Technology also

changes how we do science. With different technological advancements, we change our
ability to conduct research. Before, research was done through pen and paper, but
because of computers, we now are able to develop a more advanced way of doing
scientific research. That alone displays the interrelationship between science and
technology.

The influence of technology in our society is very profound. Jobs that revolve
around computers, electricity, and many others would have not existed if not for
technology. Technology made our jobs easier. Technology saves time, effort and
resources. I’d like to point out a personal experience. I work for a land surveying
company. Because of technology we’re able to complete projects accurately and
efficiently. Flashback to year 1990’s wherein land surveying is done manually with
the use of different types of measuring tools, but today, we use an RTK-GPS
equipment that would allow us to connect the device to a satellite which greatly
helps in taking accurate measurements in a faster way.

Social media, one of the most important platforms of recent times, wouldn't be made
possible without the help of technology. Societies are greatly influenced by social
media. Take for example, in our current situation wherein we’re in the middle of a
pandemic, do you think that if not for social media we would survive the chaos? The
pandemic is a major problem in the world today. Because of the pandemic people’s
lives are devastated. But because of modern technology, we’re still able to work,
study and continue our lives in the new normal way. Social media has helped the
government reach the public. Social media has become a platform for education. The
gadgets, the computers and the cell phones that we use become very important tools
to pursue our studies, research activities and assignments at the comforts of our
homes. Away and safe from the threat of the circulating virus. Social media has
bridged lives from all over the world. We’re now able to communicate with our loved
ones from anywhere in the world - in real-time.

Therefore, I conclude that science, technology and society have strong

relationships between each other. Science is the mother of technology and both of
them are the reasons for the creation and the development of societies.

Thank you!
