Title: COVID-19 and Emergencies in Patients With Diabetes

The journal/ study is about the mortality rate of Diabetic patients who are diagnosed with
COVID-19. There are studies that shows that patients who are elderly and who have certain medical
condition like cardiovascular disease, cancer, COPD, chronic kidney disease, diabetic mellitus and who
are obese are at higher risk of having severe symptoms and onset of COVID-19. The researchers
conducted a two case reports to two different patients. The first patient is admitted on 10 th day of the
illness with diabetic ketoacidosis and have moderate COVID-19. The second patient is admitted with
mild symptoms of COVID-19 who developed hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state with acute kidney injury
on the 9th day of COVID-19. Both patient is admitted to the intensive care unit, administering
intravenous fluids and insulin. The study shows that the health care providers should have a close
monitoring to patients who are diagnosed of diabetic mellitus and other medical conditions who are
also diagnosed with COVID-19.
