Using Gerunds

A gerund is the base form of the verb + -ing. It is used in the same way as a noun and
can be in the subject or object position in a sentence. Gerunds are used:

1. as the subject of sentences

a) Playing video games can enhance problem-solving skills. Taking pictures is one
of my sister’s hobbies.
b) Exercising 20 minutes every day leads to good heart health.

c) Learning a foreign language fosters our cultural knowledge.

d) Posting on social media increased our brand awareness.
