Week 10

Topic: 1- In the recent years, the researchers focused on the development of long-range aircraft with the commercial aid of nonconventional design concepts.

2- The C-wing concepts for large aircraft are highly preferred to overcome the design constraints such as span, aspect ratio, and compatibility.

3- The span efficiency of the C-wing is approximately equal to that of the closed wing and hence a greater reduction in vortex drag is obtained than in the case of the planar
wing

4- The flutter speed characteristics of the C-wing are investigated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solver and the C-wing is retrofitted to the A340-200 aircrafts.

5- In the CFD analysis the Navier Stroke equations are obtained as governing equations and structural vibration frequency is calculated by a Computational Structural
Dynamics (CSD) solver.

6- In addition, multi-grid technique is used to compute the aerodynamic forces with better accuracy.

7- The proposed aeroelastic analysis consists of a partial coupling of CFD and CSD solvers

.8- In the aerodynamic analysis, theoretical results show that there is a 20% of drag reduction for the C-wing as compared to the conventional wing.

9-The numerical results for the sections of the C-wing are validated by using the experimental results of the NACA report.

10-When men decided that they wanted to emulate birds and fly, the first idea that sprung to mind was to copy them.

11- Having put their minds to designing these contraptions that would take them up into the sky, the first thing that those pioneers noticed was how they used their wings
as an element that set them apart from all other living beings. Indeed, wings were the first element to be designed. And they are still there today.

12- The goal of this project was to design, in detail, the wing, flaps, and ailerons for a primary flight trainer. Integrated in this design are provisions for the fuel system, the
electrical system, and the fuselage/cabin carry-through interface structure.

13- This conceptual design displays the general arrangement of all major components in the wing structure, taking into consideration the requirements set forth by the
appropriate sections of Federal Aviation Regulation Part 23 (FAR23) as well as those established in the statement of work.

14- The provided background theory familiarizes the reader with the most common types of aircraft failure in terms of material properties and aerodynamics, as well as
with the architecture of wings, and relates them with safety and efficiency.

15- Fatigue analysis is also carried out and Miner’s rule is used to determine the wing’s fatigue safe life. Furthermore optimization is investigated in terms of alternative
materials such and aerodynamic improvements.
