Old political ideologies impacting in the social media

Nowadays social media has been a way that people can find new information, share and create

new concepts, a simple definition is useful to communication. This “phenomenon” has made that

people start interested in looking up new ideas and developing these ideas in their ideologies or

in their life. On other way, some people became interested in looking up old ideas or ideologies

that impacted the world in their moment. That is how some political and social tendencies,

movements or ideologies are showing again, such as the confederate ideas in the U.S.A, Nazim,

anarchism. In other cases, this situation has led to more and more people interested in the old

political ideas, and star recover concepts and invite other people to join their cases. However,

some of the old tendencies that have been showing up again has a good impact in the society,

such as ecological movements or anti-globalization movements. The internet and social media

have not only had returned some political tendencies and movements, but also, have allowed to

used social media in order to expand these new parties or groups based in old tendencies, and at

the same time, using fake tools in function of transmit the message of this old political

movements or tendencies, in most of the cases promoting by using fake news. In consequences

of that exist a strong relation between social media and this new interest in old political

tendencies. In this paper, I will explore the following questions, What is the relation between

social media and the come back of old political tendencies? What is the way that these old

political tendencies are now popular in social media?

Therefore, in first place is essential for this topic, explain how the social media made people start

think different and start following others ideologies than the normal ones. Some experts agree

that the principal way that social media is use to bring together people with the same way of
think or to convince people to think different by transmitting a popular and convincing message

that makes people feel attractive. In this case, some experts called this tendency an “echo

chambers”. An echo chamber makes people start transmitting only information the agree with,

and rapidly as possible the social media can allow. This echo chambers also makes that people

believe in the information because they are not exposed to differing opinions or expert opinions.

However, in the composition they say that they are writing for experts and trustworthy people.

Although, its indispensable people take the time to verify the information, they read this thing

almost never happens. Then the bad information continues to be shared by people whether it is

true or false. A perfect example of “echo chambers” is the polarization that result from the past

United States election. As the majority of people know, disinformation and social media had an

important part of the past elections. However, the candidates also made “echo cambers” as the

principal tool of convince people to vote for them. Experts explain what happened in this way

“Social media sites are often blamed for exacerbating political polarization by creating echo

chambers that prevent people form being exposed to information that contradicts their pre

existing beliefs”. [ CITATION Bai18 \l 4105 ]

In this case, the perfect way to convince people to believe in old political tendencies was be

creating “echo cambers”. An perfect example of how social media has an important part in the

return of old political tendencies is how the segregation of ideas started increasing again in

U.S.A. Experts affirm that “The possibility that the Internet may be increasing ideological

segregation has been articulated forcefully by Sunstein (2001): “Our communications market is

rapidly moving” toward a situation where “people restrict themselves to their own points of

view—liberals watching and reading mostly or only liberals; moderates, moderates;

conservatives, conservatives; Neo-Nazis, Neo-Nazis””. [ CITATION Mat10 \l 4105 ] This means

that, on social media people espoused any information that they want, but in most of the cases

they don’t care whether this information has a negative or on the society, and the old tendencies

that were supposed disappear used social media as a tool to come back and to impact a large

number of persons. No cared about the veracity of the information and wants to look up for new

and attractive tendencies and ideologies.

In other cases, social media played a role in the return of other political tendencies around the

world. This is the case in the “Nationalism”. This tendency has had a big impact on history as the

principal idea of the Roman Empire, Napoleon ideology and the Nazi Party. In the end of the last

century, this tendency was disappeared from political speech, but always a small part of

population around the world has always maintained that this ideology is good and attractive to

follow it. Therefore, when social media start gaining traction in society, the people that keep

following the Nationalism starts shared information and invite other people to follow these ideas

again, using any fake or true information that make this ideology attractive. In most cases,

nationalism parties or groups used different tools in social media to share information, such as

Bots, fake URLs and Junk news. At the same time, the truth information has been accepted by

most of the people that like and are interested in nationalism. In this case, an investigation at Pais

Vasco University in Barcelona, expressing on this idea, “As we have said before, besides, the

social and political privatisation influences strongly, mainly on young people and in urban

areas, weaking the nationalist sociability nets and turning the symbolic premises of conflict into

others that are more pragmatic and realistic.”. [ CITATION Jos98 \l 4105 ] This statement explains

how this old political tendency is attractive to the young people and how Social Media contribute

to the returning the popularity of these ideas in society.

In conclusion, social media has an important impact in the way that the people think, not only in

the facility of to finding to attractive and interesting information, but also, it is perfect way for

people to advocate for returning to a good or bad political tendency. In this case, the principal

impact is how these people is sharing information and finding people that like old political

tendencies without caring about if the information is true or false, and it is impact in society.
