Socorro Ramos

Socorro Ramos is the founder of the National Bookstore. She is indeed one of
the most inspiring women entrepreneurs in the business industry. Looking back on her
history, she was born in a low-income family; she started the business after gaining
much knowledge after working as a saleslady in a bookstore. According to Socorro,
success is not made overnight. The National Bookstore was rebuilt numerous times,
which made her stronger. Learning from past mistakes and staying ahead of the curve
is what made the National Bookstore. The business is living up to its mission and
purpose. National Bookstore has over 240 branches nationwide that increase the
availability of books and school supplies with the best quality; it also offers scholarships
and programs that help disadvantaged children access quality education. They offer the
program “Project Aral” and “Project Aklat” that encourage customers to donate and help
children. Socorro believes that experience is the best teacher. Adaptability is what will
keep your business going.

Julie Gandionco

Julie’s Bakeshop that we know today, was established by Julie Gandionco. Julie
Gandionco works as a canteen concessioner to help her husband with expenses after
moving to Cebu. Julie does not know baking, yet she decided to try it. She started to run
Julie’s Bakeshop at the age of 50. She realized the outstanding demand for bread in the
city, which motivated her to start the business. Now, Julie’s Bakeshop is considered the
largest bakeshop chain in the Philippines. According to her, if you can manage one place
efficiently, there is no reason why you can’t do more. Julie Gandionco was described as
a hardworking woman with great talent in handling her business. She is not afraid to risk
and take good opportunities, which is her way up to success. She proved that an
entrepreneur must not be scared of failure and must chase success.
