IST 501: Technology Workshop

Professor Beem

My ePortfolio Self Review

Reviewing my peers’ ePortfolios and my own has brought me to a moment where

I felt proud for the work we’ve all completed, and the vast amount of knowledge gained thus far.

In addition, I am grateful for the feedback I received from Kara and Seyon on my ePortfolio.

There’s nothing quite like gaining reassurance on improvements I’ve been debating on

addressing or a fresh pair of eyes pointing something out I would have never thought to take

notice of.

After reviewing their feedback, I took Kara’s advice and added alt text to the

graphics I had in my ePortfolio. This is something I would never have thought to do before her

pointing it out, and, to my surprise, it wasn’t too challenging to complete on Weebly. I also

followed Seyon’s guidance regarding the “below the fold” content and changed my theme to

make my work shine the moment someone visits my website - although I’m not 100% content

with the layout and assume I will search for a better way to present my content later.

Now, for my review. Professionally, I feel content with the overall look and feel of

my ePortfolio. While maintaining something personal, my love for nature, I think the contrast and

layout align with the PARC principles. Regarding navigation and functionality, I think it’s simple

enough to follow, but there’s room for improvement. I appreciate Kara’s advice to add additional

navigation buttons at the bottom of each IST 501 deliverable page to allow viewers to flow

between the different assignments. As I navigated through the site, I didn’t realize how much of

a difference it would make. Something I plan to do soon is to add additional standard pages to

showcase my other class deliverables - mimicking the same process I took for IST 501. If a

viewer clicks on my deliverables, they are directed to another page within the same tab. At the
moment, the assignments, for other classes, open to a new page/tab so they can view the

deliverable. I think the process of moving back and forth between tabs might not be the best

experience for a user navigating through my portfolio. As for my content. Although pressed for

time, I plan to provide reflections for each deliverable I’ve completed in my IST 522 and 524

classes - and my to-do list grows!

Last, when I have more time, I plan to explore the possibility of hosting my

website on Google Sites rather than Weebly. The more I view my peers’ ePortfolios, the more I

find myself gravitating towards the platform’s minimalistic layout. Of course, I’ll never forget

Professor Beem’s advice of, “Don’t spend too much time on this,” and, “Remember to get good

sleep!” I’ll save that exploration for a special moment when I’ve had enough rest and completed

my assignments for the week!
