Subject: Invitation to the 2011 World Orienteering Championships

Dear President and Fellow Orienteer,

The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) has entrusted the organisation of the 2011
World Championships (WOC 2011) to France; one of the main objectives is the
development of the sport of orienteering world-wide. These championships will also be the
occasion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IOF.

Accordingly, the IOF and the Organising Committee of WOC 2011 are jointly setting up a
project to help development in the newer orienteering countries*. This important project
has become possible thanks to the financial and technical support of the French Ministry of
Sport.

We have pleasure in inviting you to take part in the 2011 World Orienteering Championships
and in the training clinics organised by the IOF, from 10th to 20th August in Chambery, Aix-
les-Bains and the Savoie Grand Revard resort.*

All your costs in France will be covered by the Organising Committee, namely: transport
(from your airport of arrival and to the competitions), board and lodging, accreditations
and entry fees for the competitions and clinics for both athletes and coaches/managers.
We ask you to pay only for your transportation from your country to France. If you travel by
air, your destination should be the airports of Lyon-Saint Exupéry or Geneva (and only
exceptionally to a Paris airport). By train, your destination should be Chambéry.

This invitation is for a delegation of four persons comprising:

- 2 or 3 athletes,
- 1 or 2 coaches/managers representing your federation, for whom the IOF will
organise a clinic.
Your delegation will be assisted by an organiser throughout your stay.
The programme is as follows:
10 August: arrival of the delegation
11 August: clinics for athletes and coaches/managers
12 August: clinics for athletes and coaches/managers
13 August: competition - Long Distance qualifications
14 August: competition - Middle Distance qualifications
15 August: opening ceremony
16 August: competition - Sprint World Championships
17 August: Long Distance Finals or participation in the public event
18 August: IOF Presidents’ Conference for those representing their Federations
19 August: Middle Distance Finals or participation in the public event
20 August: Relay or participation in the public event
21 August: Departure

We would ask you please to let us know by 1st May latest whether you accept or decline
this invitation.

We believe that this international cooperation will help to develop the practice of the sport
of orienteering world-wide and we very much hope to have the pleasure of welcoming
you to France.

Yours sincerely
