Connection box EJB 5380

EJB 5380 is a printed circuit board that is built into a plastic box similar to the RCL 5300 box. All
cables from the crane - for example from an oil cooler, work light, protection during transport,
engine control, etc. - are mounted inside EJB 5380, and the crane fitter performs all electrical
connections here.

EJB 5380 Printed circuit drawing, EJB 5380

Description of EJB 5380

As it appears from the printed circuit drawing above (and at the end of this chapter), the individual
sockets, terminals, fuses and relays are marked by numbers and explanatory text.
Connection of the EJB 5380 to the vehicle, dimension of cables and wires and recommended
pre-fuse are stated in the electric diagram 70 21 071 01.
There must be two separate power supplies. One for RCL and RC (J3) and one for functions with
a large power consumption as e.g. work light and oil cooler (J4).
This separation of the power supplies is necessary to avoid both voltage drops and voltage peaks
getting into the RCL 5300 Safety System.
The combination of separate power supply and the built-in protection of the electronic
components in the controllers ensure maximum operational safety in the safety system of the
crane.

Terminals in the J1 socket - Engine

The output terminals J1-1 (RPM -), J1-2 (RPM +), J1-3 (Stop), J1-4 (Start) and J1-5 (Auto) are
engine control functions from the radio remote control box.
These terminals are connected to the engine control of the vehicle.
The output voltage is the same as the power supply from the vehicle - 12 or 24 volt.

Terminals in the J2 socket - Safety

J2-1: Connection of the signal form the PTO of the vehicle. In case of high signal, the diode is lit.
J2-2: Connection of the signal from the transport alarm of the crane (BEHEW) for indication in the
driver's
cab. In case of high signal from both stabilizer beams retracted (J6-3 and J6A-3) and max.
crane height
(J6B-3), there is a high signal on J2-2 and the diode is lit.
J2-3: Connection of the signal from the transport alarm of the crane (HEW) for indication in the
driver's cab.
In case of high signal from max. crane height (J6B-3) there is a high signal on J2-3 and the
diode
is lit.
J2-4: Connection of the signal from the transport alarm of the crane (BEW) for indication in the
driver's cab.
In case of high signal from both stabilizer beams retracted (J6-3 and J6A-3), there is a high
signal on J2-4 and the
diode is lit.
The output voltage is the same as the power supply from the vehicle - 12 or 24 volt.
All the output terminals are protected against overloading.

Terminals J3 - Power RCL

The power supply from the vehicle - via the ignition - is connected to the J3-1 (÷) and J3-2 (+)
terminals.
In case of simultaneous signal from the PTO (terminal J2-1) the K1A relay is activated and the
RCL 5300, the transport alarm (BEHEW) and the radio remote control (via RCL 5300) are
powered.

The power supply for the RCL and the RC sensors on the crane is always 24 volt. In case of 12
volt power supply, a 12/24 volt converter is used.

Terminals J4 - Power Oil/Light

When the crane is equipped with an oil cooler, work light or other equipment with high power
consumption, a separate power supply has to be connected from the vehicle to the J4-1 and J4-
2 terminals.
In case of voltage on the J8-14 (from RCL or RC), the K2A relay is activated, and the work light is
powered.

Terminals J5 - Engine
J5-1 (Auto), J5-2 (Start), J5-3 (Stop), J5A-1 (RPM+) and J5A-2 (RPM) are connected to the
engine control functions from the radio remote control box.

The input signals on the J5 terminals are transferred/converted to the output signals in the J1
terminals, i.e. the output voltage is the same as the power supply from the vehicle - 12 or 24 volt,
no matter whether you use a 12/24 volt converter or not.

Terminals J6 - Safety
J6-2 (left stabilizer leg), J6A-2 (right stabilizer leg), J6B-2 (main boom), J6C-2 (left stabilizer leg
on separate traverse) and J6D-2 (right stabilizer leg on separate traverse) provides power supply
to the sensors for securing for transport.
The input signals from these sensors: J6-3, J6A-3, J6B-3, J6C-3 and J6D-3 are
transferred/converted to the output signals in the J2 terminals (see above), i.e. the output voltage
is the same as the power supply from the vehicle – 12 or 24 volt, no matter whether you use a
12/24 volt converter or not.

Terminals J7 - Converter
A 12/24 volt converter is connected to the J7-1 (12V), J7-2 (0V), J7-3 (0V) and J7-4 (24V)
terminals, if the crane has been ordered for 12 volt power supply.
In case of 24 volt power supply, a wire has been fitted between J7-1 and J7-4.
From J7-4 there is power supply for the RCL 5300 and the radio remote control (J8-1/2/3) via the
F1 fuse.
Please note:
- The oil cooler and the work light have not been connected to the converter but must be
adapted to the power supply of the vehicle.
Terminals J8 - RCL, Extra, Oil, Light
The output terminals J8-1 (- RCL), J8-2 (+ RCL) and J8-3 (Ignition) power the RCL 5300 and
from here on also the radio remote control.
J8-4 (- Extra) and J8-5 (+ Extra) are extra output terminals, intended for a future function in the
safety system. They are included in the same circuit as the RCL 5300 Safety System, and must
therefore not be used for external equipment.
J8-6 (- Oil) and J8-7 (+ Oil) are power supply (from J4-1 and J4-2) for the oil cooler (12 or 24
volt).
J8-8 – J8-13 are output terminals for connection of up to three work lights via the K2A relay (12 or
24 volt).
J8-14 (On) is an input terminal, which in case of high signal (from RCL or RC) activates the K2A
relay, which powers the work light.
J8-15 (+) is an extra output terminal, where the voltage is the same as the power supply from the
vehicle - 12 or 24 volt. For example it is possible to fit an external switch for work light ON/OFF 1,
2 and 3 between J8-15 and J8-14.
Please note:
The power for oil coolers and work lights is not converted. This equipment must be adapted to the
power supply from the vehicle - 12 or 24 volt.
Relays K1A and K2A
The K1A relay is activated by the PTO signal from the vehicle. The relay powers the RCL 5300,
"Ignition" and radio remote control (via RCL 5300).
The K2A relay is activated by a high signal from the J8-14 terminal (ON) or an external switch via
J8-15 - see above. The relay powers work lights 1, 2 and 3.
Please note:
- The relays must be adapted to 12 or 24 volt power supply.
Fuses F1, F2, F3
There are three built-in fuses that protect the wiring and electric components against overloading
and short-circuiting.
F1: 10 Amp fuse in the circuit for RCL 5300, radio remote control and "Ignition".
F2: 15 Amp fuse in the circuit for oil cooler.
F3: 10 Amp fuse in the circuit for work light.

Troubleshooting
In case of errors in the safety and operating system, you also have to take troubleshooting in the
EJB 5380 connection box into account.
- Check the diodes by the J2 terminals. The green diodes are lit, when there is a high signal on
the terminals.
- Check the fuses.
- Check the relay function.

Furthermore, there is easy access for measuring by means of a voltmeter on the individual
terminals.

EJB 5385 printed circuit board

In cases where extra digital in- and outputs are necessary, a printed circuit board is fitted in the
cover of the EJB 5380 connection box - EJB 5385.
A total of 8 digital inputs/outputs can be connected.

Via tumbler switches on the Scanreco G2 remote control box, six digital functions can be directly
operated. The digital outputs from the radio controller are led over to the junction box and
mounted in the input terminals on the EJB 5385 printed circuit board.
From the junction box, cables are led further to electrically controlled valves or other equipment
on the vehicle.

DC12-DC24 converter

The power supply for the RCL 5300 radio remote control and sensors on the crane is always 24
volt.
In case of 12 volt power supply, a 12/24 volt converter is used.

If the crane is supplied with oil cooler and/or work light, these features are not connected via the
converter, but adapted to the power supply from the vehicle, i.e. 12 or 24 volt. See electrical
connection to the EJB 5380.

Connection, DC 12-24 DC12-DC24 converter

The transformer is connected to the J7-Converter pins in the connection box EJB 5380:

Technical data
Power supply: 10-14 volt
Fuse for input voltage: 25 ampere (see position above)
The output voltage has been protected via the 10 ampere fuse (F1) in the EJB 5380 connection
box.
A 110°C thermal fuse is fitted on the heat sink.

Troubleshooting
In case of errors in the safety and operating system, you must trouble-shoot not only in the EJB
5380 connection box (see above), but also in the DC12-DC24 converter:
- Check the 25 ampere fuse.
- In case of an error in or activation of the thermal fuse, the 24 volt output voltage is transformed
to 12 volt (not 0 volt) - i.e. the power supply from the vehicle. The RCL 5300 Safety System is
powered in the situation with 12 volt, which entails that 24 volt solenoid coils are not activated
(error indication from the RCL).
