The Woman Who Matters

TRINIDAD PEREZ TECSON

Popularly known as the “Mother of Biak-na-Bato,”

Trinidad Tecson was born on November 18, 1848 in San Miguel
de Payumo, Mayumo, Bulacan. In 1895, she joined the Katipunan
women chapter, at the age of 47. When the Philippine-American
war was over, she remained a woman who provided for herself
as she focused on her business in Nueva Ecija after her second
husband died. She died January 28, 1928 at the Philippine
General Hospital at the age of 80. She is buried at the
Mausoleum of the Veterans of the Revolution in Cementerio del
Norte or Manila North Cemetery.

She is the first Filipina known to have taken part in the

sacred blood pact or Sandugo. She was given the title “Ina ng
Biak-na-Bato” or Mother of the Biak-na-Bato Republic after
putting up a facility to care for those wounded from fighting. She
was one of the few revolutionary women who actually fought
side-by-side with the revolutionary men for the country’s
freedom from the Spanish colonizers. She is known as the Philippine Revolution founder of Philippine National Red
Cross in recognition of her nursing services for fellow Katipuneros. During the Philippine-American war, she joined
the revolutionary forces led by Gen. Gregorio del Pilar. She also served in the Malolos Republic and was designated
as the Commissary of War.

For showing bravery and courageousness during the fateful days of the Philippines where war, death and chaos
were affluent. She placed her life at risk just to fight and protect our country from colonization.  In this time of war
gender inequality and discrimination is happening. Women in that time should always be inside of the house and
take part as housewives and colonizers discriminate and harass Filipino women. But Tecson took the courage to help
the katipuneros and prove to everyone that there is no gender when it comes to war, especially for the sake of our
country. She fought alongside the men and acquired significant political skills and know-how.

I chose Trinidad Tecson because she made her own history by her braveness and love for the country. She
took the courage to help the katipuneros who needed medication and fight in the battlefield alongside with
Katipuneros, braving 12 battles with fellow revolutionaries. She fought under 5 Filipino generals, including Emilio
Aguinaldo, Gregorio del Pilar, Isidoro Torres, and Mariano Llanera. Tecson also fought against the Americans until
she fell ill and sought treatment in Manila. Tecson shows that there is no gender when it comes to war. All you need
is the courage and the love for your country. She fought for the freedom of our country not knowing what are the
instances and danger she's facing. She faced every challenge in colonization despite her gender. She deserved to be a
role model for every man and woman of this century because of her braveness and courageous heart.

A LETTER TO X

To my friend,
Hey! I know your facing many challenges by now not just this pandemic but also in yourself. It’s been a long
time since we know each other and we face many challenges and happy moments with each other. Our
friendship made stronger day by day as we keep through.
I know what you feel about what you are and who you are but you are afraid to show it because of your
father that you don’t know if they will accept you in this matter and because of your religion that you
are in. But my friend be strong and be true to yourself because being will make yourself free and you
will get the freedom that you deserve. You are free to choose your gender and you will be accepted by
us, especially your parents.
Did you know that gender has many identities and one of them may suit for what you feel. Any gender
now has the equal rights for living and laws implemented to protect every gender including yours.
HOW DO I CHOOSE A PARTNER
(A REFLECTION PAPER)

Choosing a partner in life is a big decision for every person, it is a part of our life. Choosing a mate in
society nowadays is usually based on our ideal image of a significant other we have created in our head that is
influenced by our surroundings. It is part of love where a person falls for another person. We chose a partner
to be with someone by our side, to build our own family and to be loved. God created man for woman and
woman for man to relate to each other and complement one another and there are so many ways to look at
how relationships are built and work.

Finding the ideal man or woman when you have many preferences is nearly impossible but finding a
man or woman with reasonable and respectful standards is more likely to be found. Some people find dates,
mates, and spouses to pair off with someone of similar attraction, background, interests, and needs. This is
typically true for most couples. They find and pair off with persons of similarity more than difference. Birds of
a feather flock together, but you also have probably heard that opposites attract. This relationship can be
indirectly supportive of a long-term relationship quality because it facilitates less disagreements and
disconnections of routines in the daily life of a couple.

Different people have different ideas for choosing partners, because the people have different
aesthetic standards. Beliefs of someone attributes about how a person affects in finding a partner in life.
Some people consider that a partner's physical attractiveness is more important, such as, facial appearance,
body shape and age. However, some people liked their partners to have a good social status, like, good job,
high-income and high education.

For me, I prefer to choose someone who wants to be with me. Someone who accepts who and what I
am, accepts my flaws and what I believe in life.  In the future, I think I will select my mate reflecting the ideal
mate theory because I will form my concept of my ideal mate based on surroundings and experiences. I
believe I will choose a social homogamous mate because I would like to build a relationship with a mate with a
similar appearance, background, religion, age, value and social class. Before establishing a relationship with a
mate, I would like to have friendship leading to dating leading to engagement leading to marriage. Which
allows me to be more familiar and flexible to my mate’s personality and values, and I would know the
expected roles of her in our future.

Global History of Women’s Right
Reflection paper

Of course, I agree a woman should be treated right and give them the rights in every aspect in our
country. No history of women’s suffrage is complete without acknowledging those who were excluded. These
early movements for gender equality were overwhelmingly the remit of privilege for every woman's right.
Gender equality must be promoted in every country and give every person the same rights in every opportunity
that is given to them. All men and women must ensure, particularly the poor and the vulnerable have the rights
to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of
property, inheritance and natural resources.

Women fight for equal rights over centuries the struggles for equal rights a centuries-old for 1848
marked a watershed for women’s right with Seneca Falls convention. In 1893 New Zealand sent a message to the
other activists across the world equal voting rights. Entering the twentieth-century a greater number of women
rose for the campaign of gender equality. In 1945 Eleonor Roosevelt oversaw the drafting of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights for the world to hear. Women activists become more powerful with the worldwide
momentum being the symbols of feminist resistance and social change. This momentum reached a climax in
1995 when the Beijing Declaration and platform for action presented a visionary global agenda for women and
girls’ rights. As we enter the 21st century a single woman’s voice is now louder than ever, women now take the
lead towards equal rights.

Throughout the history of mankind, the rank of women has been crucial in the development of humans.
There are some common issues faced by the women’s past generation and the current generation, and here are
some examples of these issues. In the past, the women were more accustomed to working in homes and taking
care of children, etc. But now they are stepping into the outside world due to advances in education for women
and increasing awareness. The progress of the nation is determined by the high positions of the women in the
society in terms of employment and work. But women are continuously facing inequalities in the workforce, they
were treated improperly and their rights as women were taken. Woman of the past, until now were
experiencing discrimination and sexual abuse.

Make a step in protecting women's rights by promoting it in public. Help every woman and child get the
right and the treatment they need. Make an advocacy about the equal treatment to every person and every
aspect we were in. Because, every woman deserves to have the power in leadership, politics and being a human.
ARTICLE ANALYSIS

The impact of COVID-19 on women. Many women experienced violence in any part of our country
and also in other parts of the world. The number of women experiencing violence in this time of pandemic
increases in time. Many of these women became trapped at home or in their job with their abusers and
faced an increased risk of other violence. This time of pandemic many of the health workers are women and
they are vulnerable and prone to any risk within their job. Globally, women are the frontliners of COVID-19
response but they are not reflected in any national or global decision-making on the response for COVID-19.
Women have a great exposure in this pandemic, their health is at risk therefore they need more attention
when it comes to their protection in any aspect. A lot of young women and girls were affected by COVID-19
school closures, it was estimated that eighty nine percent of the world’s student population were out of
school. They are prone to any act of violence in their community especially at their homes. Unemployment
is also a problem for young women, the number of unemployment is constantly rising even when the
pandemic didn’t come until now.

COVID-19 has a big impact on the community, especially to women, they are at increased risk of
infection and loss of livelihood.  Women are serving on the frontlines against COVID-19, and the impact of
the crisis on women is stark. They are over-represented working in health systems, continue to do the
majority of unpaid care work in households, face high risks of economic insecurity, and face increased risks
of violence, exploitation, abuse or harassment during times of crisis and quarantine. Existing trends point to
less access to sexual and reproductive health and rise in domestic violence during crises. Every woman’s
health impacts of violence, particularly in an intimate partner or domestic violence can result in physical,
mental, sexual and reproductive health problems, including sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and
unplanned pregnancies. Women and girls experience multiple and disproportionate burdens of care work,
and suffer from gender stereotyping, out of school youth, stigmatization, and sexual shaming. Some of them
are arranged in a marriage and reported enduring physical, sexual or emotional violence. A lot of women
experienced different kind of violence that sometimes triggered them to feel stress and depress, a lot of
them suffered in any form of discrimination. Violence was being compounded by money, health and security
stresses, movement restrictions, crowded homes and reduced peer support. In a number of countries,
domestic violence reports and emergency calls have surged upwards of twenty five percent since social
distancing measures were enacted. Such numbers are also likely to reflect only the worst cases. Prior to the
pandemic, less than forty percent of the women who experienced violence sought help of any sort. Now,
quarantine and movement restrictions further serve to isolate many women trapped with their abusers
from friends, families and other support networks. To support women and girls facing domestic violence,
safe access to support services and emergency measures, including legal assistance and judicial remedies, is
urgently needed. Measures to protect women from violence must be a standard part of government
responses to the pandemic, as well as longer-term recovery packages. This includes ensuring shelters stay
open as essential services, or repurposing unused spaces to provide shelter to women and girls who are
forced to leave their homes to escape abuse. In addition, shelters need more resources so they can expand
to accommodate quarantine needs and increased demand. Also required is greater support to hotlines and
women’s rights organizations working on the front lines. We are facing an education crisis. The right to go to
school and learn is central to every child’s development, safety and well-being. Yet in too many countries
classrooms remain closed while social gatherings continue to take place in restaurants, salons and gyms.
School closures impact every child, but the most vulnerable children hardest. Some students have been able
to access remote learning during school closures, but many of them have struggled due to a lack of support.

Women are the new hero of this time of crisis but they become the slave that maltreats and do them
discrimination.  The inequality in gender felt by women because of the violence they experience in every
field. The number of discriminate to the women and girls is continually expanding every year, especially this
pandemic. In times of crisis, when resources are strained and institutional capacity is limited, women and
girls face disproportionate impacts with far reaching consequences that are only further amplified in
contexts of fragility, conflict, and emergencies. Hard-fought gains for women’s rights are also under threat.
Responding to the pandemic is not just about rectifying long-standing inequalities, but also about building a
resilient world in the interest of everyone with women at the center of recovery.
POSTER MAKING

In this time of pandemic, the number of cases of violence that happened in women increases. The
treatment in the women workers is not equal with the men workers. In this time, we should be equal and fair to
everybody. In this time, we should implement in ourselves the gender equality. Everyone should treat equally in
our needs and respect each other. Everybody should have the equal rights especially to every woman.

Early pregnancy forces teenagers to take on an adult role while their bodies are often not ready for

this scenario. It can cause teenagers to be trapped in an inescapable cycle of poverty, stigmatized by society

REFLECTION ON TRAITS AND FILIPINO CHARACTER

Traits are a combination of characteristics that are innate to people as individuals as well as
characteristics that develop from specific life experiences. We Filipinos are prominent to our close family ties
and relatives. We value a big family and surely help other family members who badly need our help. We have
our family to lean on during hard times. We stay with our family, especially our parents, as long as we want
them by our side. We celebrated special occasions like Christmas, New year and birthdays with them. With
this trait I became more expressive when it comes to my feelings to my family. I make strong affection with
my family ties and become more committed to give them happiness and show how I love them. I always enjoy
the time that I’m with them and I spend my whole time with them.

With this trait as a student, I suddenly know how to handle and manage my time as a student to not
suffer in my academics. I become more consistent with my work and activities at school.  As a student this
characteristic of traits gives me knowledge and values on how important this trait is. I give enough time and
effort with my homework and other academic work. And it teaches me as a student on how to become strong
and brave despite my failures.

I am responsible, reliable and selfless. These are the three traits that I can help in contributing to
the community. Being responsible through my actions, being reliable for other people and being selfless
in a way that I help others who are in need rather than thinking about my privilege. I consider other
people’s experiences to understand their points of view. To have essential qualities for other people I’m
working and helping in my community. I volunteer in some activities that can be good in our community
like clean up drive and tree planting. Helping others that need my help as long as I can and organize the
community for a better place.
