Q.1 What is happening and why?
The case provided describes the situation of Manav Desai, who
has recently joined as the Chief of Operations of a mid-sized
manufacturing company named Syntech Pvt Ltd and the
challenges he has to face on making some procedural changes
in the organization. Further details regarding the case is as
mentioned below:-
 Manav Desai was in his early forties who had recently got
transferred to Nashik after spending around 19 years in
Pune working in a family run business where he had
started working as a floor supervisor post getting a
diploma degree and with time gradually, he had moved
up to take up a managerial role.
 After spending most of the time in the family run business
in Pune he had ample experience in the area of
operations procedures and this new job as the Chief of
Operations in Syntech was the perfect opportunity for
Manav to put his past experience into action.
 This new company had a 12 member team reporting to
Manav directly and among them was a member named
Karan Rai who was an IIT passout and the entire team was
impressed by Karan because of his qualification and his
knowledge.
 On joining Syntech Manav had conducted a thorough
assessment of the current operating procedures and had
identified ways in which the process could be streamlined
and made more efficient.
 Based on his past experience Manav had directed the
team to make the desired changes in the procedure for
further improvements.
 As soon as he had directed his team for the changes to be
implemented he had observed that the team had started
internally discuss among themselves and within no time
Karan Rai who was the favourite among the team
approached Manav with full confidence to convey that
that was directed by Manav to be implemented is not
going to work.

Based on the above events it is upto Manav now that how


he handles the situation in order to implement his
decision without hurting his team members opinion.
Q.2 How should Manav handle the situation?
Manav should handle the above situation in the following
manner:-
 Since Karan Rai has approached Manav on behalf of his
entire team, Manav must hear it out what Karan has to
say regarding Manav’s decision on making the changes.
 After hearing Karan’s opinion Manav should conduct a
meeting with his entire team in order to understand his
team better and also be transparent about the reason
behind his decision in order to implement the change.
 Manav should also mention that he has heard out to
Karan’s opinion and if he does not agree to what Karan
has suggested Manav should address the entire team that
why he will not be able to consider karan’s suggestion.
