Paint is a drawing tool which you can use to create simple or elaborate drawings. These
drawings can either be black-and-white or colored. You can print it, use it as your desktop
background, or paste it in another document.
Paint is a product of Microsoft Corporation.

STARTING UP PAINT
To activate Paint, click the Start button. On the Start menu, click All Programs. Click
Accessories. Click Paint. The Paint program will then appear in a new window with an empty
drawing area.

Another way to launch Paint is to find its shortcut on the desktop. If the shortcut is there,
double-click it.

Still another way to launch it is to find it on the Start menu. If you point to it, file names of
pictures that have been recently worked on will show up on the right pane. Click one of these to
launch Paint and to open your choice file right away. See the example below.
At the top of the screen, you will see the title bar. The Title bar tells you that you are presently
running Paint. It also tells you the name of the file that is open and current.
The title bar also shows the following:
a. A Paint icon. When you click this icon, it opens a menu with options to Restore, Move, Size,
Minimize, Maximize, and Close the Paint window.
b. A Quick Access Toolbar. Click on an icon or command here to save a file, undo an action,
redo an action, customize itself, or apply other commands.
c. Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons

Below the title bar is the ribbon of tools and commands, headed by tabs.

The first button on the left is the Paint button, followed by the Home and View tabs. On the far
right is the Help button.

Click the Paint button to open a drop-down menu

of options to open, save, and to see what else you can
do with Paint.

Under the tabs are the many tools and commands you may use for drawing or painting.

The Drawing Area is the empty space. It is similar to a drawing canvas. It makes up the
biggest part of the window. This is where you draw and paint.

Along the right and bottom edges of the Drawing Area are the scroll bars. These are used to
move the contents of the window up and down, left and right when the page size is larger than the
window size. Both scroll bars have corresponding arrows.

To move the page in small steps, click the appropriate arrow at the end of one of the scroll
bars. Each time you click the arrow, the page will scroll in the opposite direction.

To move the page in larger steps, click the appropriate scroll bar, hold it down (do not let go)
and drag it to the direction where you want to move the page.

The status bar sits at the bottom of the window. It gives you some information about the
current picture.

location in the Drawing Area and start drawing from there. With the Pencil tool, you can draw all kinds
of shapes and sizes.
