scores between the pre and post assessment.

Materials List

Student issues Chromebook laptop, Pencils for assessments, White board and markers.

Lesson Rationale

The unit title is Music Technology, and this specific lesson has students identify and
demonstrate the difference between the music terms, “Beat” and “Rhythm”. This lesson will
include a review of these music terms a simple pre-assessment, time to discuss with peers,
complete the project, and finally a post-assessment. Students will use Chrome Music Lab to
create their own beat and rhythm. Students will share their creations and the rest of the class
will have to decipher where the music terms are located within the song.

Gaining Attention

The teacher will start class with a review of the music terms: Beat and Rhythm.

Beat- Students will stomp the beat with their feet.

Rhythm- Students will take turns creating rhythms by clapping their hands.

The teacher will play a recording of a popular song which demonstrates beat and rhythm.

Informing the Learner of the Learning Targets & Success Criteria

Tell class, they will create their own beat and rhythm to dramatically improve their scores
between the pre and post assessment.

Stimulating Recall of Prior Learning

- - Remind the class that we learned these terms during our previous discussion: Beat,
Rhythm, Dynamics, Melody, Harmony, Tone. Let’s take time to review them.

- Students will be given a pre-assessment sheet and will have 5 minutes to complete it.

Presenting the New Material

- The students will then log on to Chrome Music Lab and Create their own music project
which contains a beat and a rhythm.

- The teacher will create a project at the same time and present it for the students to see.
This will help students follow along.

- When the students are finished creating a beat and rhythm, they will share their
projects with the whole class.

Assessing Student Learning and Providing Feedback

The students will complete a pre-assessment which reviews music terms they have learned in
our previous lessons. After students finish creating their Chrome Music Lab project, they will be
given a post-assessment. Students will compare their results of the pre and post assessment to
see how much their scores have increased.

Assessing the Behavior

- The objective will be assessed when the students share their Chrome Music Lab Projects. The
rest of the class has to decipher the music terms within the song.

Differentiation for Diverse Learners

FS1: While presenting the new material, students will have time to talk to their partner about
their ideas for the assignment. I will personally walk over to FS1 to have them walk me through
their ideas. This one on one conversation is helpful for FS1 because they sometimes miss
directions when I talk to fast in front of the class.

FS2: FS2 will receive have the same help as FS1 but will also be given a printed copy of the
directions for them to check off as they work through the assignment. This student benefits
from a copy of directions which they can cross off as they complete each one.

FS3: FS3 is selectively mute. To help this student, the teacher will answer any of this students’
questions one on one so the whole class does not have to listen.
