Scope and Delimitation

The general intent of this study is to investigate the association between the English speaking ability of
the students under the E-learning approach focusing on the Grade 11 students of Mainit National High
School, Surigao del Norte, Philippines, during the school year 2021-2022.

This study is limited on;

First, the result of Versant’s English-speaking skill test. It evaluates the ability of non-native English-
speaking individuals and will be used to measure the level of speaking proficiency of the students in
terms of: (1) Fluency, (2) Grammar, (3) Vocabulary, and (4) Content.

Second, the result of the Pragmatic Language Observation Scale by Phyllis Newcomer and Donald D.
Hammil. It is a 30-item, norm-reference teachers’ rating scale that can be used to assess students’ daily
classroom spoken language behavior to determine the extent of the application of e-learning approach
in English for Grade 11 learners; and

Lastly, the result of the questionnaire checklist using the 5-point likert scale. This will be used to identify
the significant association between the extent of the application of the E-Learning approach and the
English speaking proficiency of the students. Furthermore, this study yearns to identify how the
researcher develops and assists learners’ speaking ability

Hypothesis

At 0.05 level of significance, it was hypothesized that:

H0: There is no significant association between the extent of e-learning application and the speaking
ability of the students.

STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES

To interpret the data effectively, the researcher will employ the following statistical tool ; Mean,
Standard Deviation, and Pearson r to interpret the data.

Mean. This test will be used to ascertain the level of speaking proficiency of the students in terms of: (1)
Fluency (2) Grammar (3) Vocabulary and (4) Content, and the extent of the application of e-learning
approach on the Grade 11 students of Mainit National High School.

Standard Deviation (SD). This test will be employed to determine the homogeneity and heterogeneity of
the level of speaking proficiency of the students in terms of: (1) Fluency (2) Grammar (3) Vocabulary and
(4) Content, and the extent of the application of e-learning approach on the Grade 11 students of Mainit
National High School.

Pearson r. Set at 0.05 alpha level of significance, this test will be used to determine the significant
relationship between the extent of e-learning application and the speaking ability of the students of the
Grade 11 students of Mainit National High School.
