Course Objectives:
To enable the students to understand recent advancement in the field of textile materials and fashion

To analyses the market needs of modern fashion consumers through market research.
To create 3D and 2D empathetic designs using computer aided design tools and techniques.

Course Description:
UNIT I
High Performance Fibers: Application areas of Kevlar Fiber, Nomex Fiber, Carbon Fiber, Glass fiber, the key
features of aforementioned high performance fibers and their end use in various functional fields.
Green Fashion Materials: Advances in use of natural materials in different functional areas. Introduction to
green textile materials including blended and composite materials, key features and end use
UNIT II
Computer Aided Fashion/Textile Design: 2D and 3D modelling and simulation of apparels
Drape quality, material selection, good fit features, tools and techniques to improve aesthetic features of
designed garments, consumer centric applications of CAD solutions and significance
UNIT III
Design Empathy: Significance of empathetic designs in solving real world problems.
Identifying consumer/ subject needs, design research, use CAD tools for empathetic design.
UNIT IV
Advances in apparel industry: smart wearable textiles, 3D printing, Phase changing Materials
Recent developments and paradigm shift in fashion and smart textile products, case studies on recent such
products.
UNIT V
Fashion Merchandising: Visual merchandising techniques, Market segmentation, Market research, Sampling
and data analysis tool and techniques for observing consumer responses for market research, designing research
for case studies
