CLO AVATARS

CLO offers 12 avatars:

Avatar Version 1 (V1): 2 male, 2 female
Avatar Version 2 (V2): 3 male, 3 female
Avatar Kid Version 1 (V1): 1 boy & 1 girl (7 - 16 years),
1 kid (2 - 6 year), kid (6 - 18 month)

There is a distinction between V1 Avatars and V2 Avatars.

For example, when a size (*.avs) or a pose (*.pose) has been
created on a V2 Avatar, it can only be applied on a V2 Avatar.
The principle is the same for V1 Avatars.

This type of format allows you to save an OBJ of a human form as an Avatar with its Bounding AVS files do not contain an Avatar, only size information. It is not possible to mix AVS files between
Volumes and its Arrangement Points. The AVT format also allows you to contain the rig (skeleton) Avatars of different versions and sexes. The AVS file is only compatible with the Avatar on which it

MEASUREMENTS - TOTAL BODY

Width: Adjust the overall width of the Avatar using the chest circumfmerence as the general control point. All other areas of the body will increasse or decrease proportionally when the width is changed.

Female Avatar Options: Bust Circumference or Under Bust Circumference are avilable only for the female Avatars. here is no preference between these two options. However, for some cases where
there is a need to change the bust in more detail (for example when trying on a bra) it is advisable to define “Under Bust Circumference” as the total measure. This will allow you to independently adjust the
bust measurement in the “Details” section of the Avatar Size.

MEASUREMENT

TIP! Configuration of Avatar measurements:

Due to technical reasons, a marginal error may be generated even after the insertion of a specific measurement. The margin of error appears in parentheses next to each measurement in the Avatar Editor. The
actual measurement (the addition of the inserted measurement + margin of error) can be checked on the avatar in the 3D Window. This margin of error is used to adjust the appearance and proportion of the
measurement relative to the rest of the body.

We recommend that you take into consideration the measurement displayed in the 3D window and adjust the initial value inserted in the Avatar Editor by adding the margin of error. However there are some
technical limitations and the adjustment of the measures may not be optimal. When you are in this type of situation, try to adjust the value to the nearest number.

measurements are not accessible here and will be determined by the Total Body Height.

user to adjust height proportions that can be most accurately measured on a dress form.

WORKFLOW - OPEN

TIP! Start by adding the details of the Basic section, then to go to the Advanced (Human Body) section if your measurements are
taken from a real human. If your measurements have been taken from a mannequin, go to Advanced (Dressform) after Basic instead.
This will allow the algorithm to better interpret the final result and obtain a more natural form.

TIP! On each detail section (basic, advanced, etc.), start with all the Height measurements and then move on to Circumference
measurements.

STEP 1: Add an Avatar to the workspace. STEP 2: Open the Avatar Editor.

WORKFLOW - TOTAL BODY

STEP 3: Change the Total Body size. If possible, choose HPS Height or
Inseam, then Bust Circumference or Under Bust Circumference.

STEP 4: In the Details section, start by changing the Basic measures.

STEP 5a: Change necessary measurement under Advanced (Human Body) if your measurements were
taken from a human body.

WORKFLOW - DETAILS

Q&A

SHOULD I FOLLOW AN ORDER TO CHANGE THE MEASURES OF EACH SECTION?

Yes. It is best to add all the height measurements and then add the circumference measurements.
Height measurements have a big influence on how the algorithm interprets the final shape. When
you are in the Basic section, first add: CF Neck to Waist, CB Neck to Waist, HPS to Apex, Inseam
Height, CB Neck to Wrist, and Total Rise. Then add the circumferences such as: Neck Base, Bust
Circumference, Waist Circumference, High Hip Circumference, Low Hip Circumference, Thigh
Circumference, and Bicep Circumference. Follow the same procedure for all sections.

MY AVATAR DOESN’T LOOK NATURAL, WHAT TO DO?

Due to certain technical limitations, it sometimes happens that certain parts of the Avatar’s body
appear “twisted”. In this case it is better to leave aside problematic measures and let the software
do an automatic calculation.

Generally, the most accurate way to record an Avatar is to do a 3D scan of a body. If you later want
to add a rig (skeleton) to this 3D scan, you will have to go through our Convert to Avatar function.
Learn more about Convert to Avatar.

Warning! Once you have moved from the Basic section to the Advanced (Human Body)
and Advanced (Dressform) sections, avoid going back to the previous section because your
measurements will reset, by default.

STEP 5b: Go to Advanced (Dressform) section if your measurements were taken from a mannequin.
TIP! Start with all Height measurements, before moving on to Circumference
measurements.

SAVING IN .AVS FORMAT

TIP! The steps to modify the measurements of an Avatar are the same whether saving an AVT or an AVS file. The only difference is the
way you open the file.

Avatar Size AVS: Contains Avatar Size information. The Avatar file (*.avt) must be loaded before opening the Avatar Size file.
Avatar AVT: Contains all the information related to avatars (Model, Sizing, Poses, Motions, Accessories, Bounding Volumes, Arrangement
Points).

STEP 2: A pop-up window will appear and you will be able to save your AVS file.
Name your file and save.

STEP 1: In the Avatar Editor, click on the Save icon at the top right.

STEP 3: If you create a size folder and save your AVS file in this folder, you can then connect
this folder to your CLO library and click-drag your different sizes on the avatar of your
project file.

MEASURE

Basic Tape Measure & Surface Tape Measure Tools - These tools are meant to allow a user to measure areas of an Avatar where default measurement markings are not provided. Additionally pattern outlilne
or internal lines can be attached to these tape markingss usisng the Attach to Measure tool. Additonal Tape Measure marking will popullate in the Measure tab of the avatar editor. The markings are simply
for documentation and do not become a control point for editing in the Avatar Editor. This set of markings can be saved and re-opened on a same version Avatar, but will not be transferable between Avatar
versions or genders.

There are 6 Tape Measure tools, 1 Editing tool and 1 Attched to Measure (Avatar) tool (see attached images).

BASIC TOOLS: Measure areas close to the body in a straight line or around the widest
circumference point. This version is most akin to methods of measuring the body
with soft measuing tape. It will graze the surface at the highest or widest points of
an Avatar. For Example, when measuing the bust or chest it will graze over the apex
peaks, not contourign to the valley area between bust or pectoral areas.

SURFACE TOOL: This will hug and follow every counour of an Avatars surface. Unlike
the Basic versions, the Surface tape measure will never be susupended in air when
following high contourd areas such as a bust. It will follow the contour exactly, almost
like drawing on a form with a marker.

LINEAR TOOL: This will allow you to measure from any Avatar Surface point to another
surface point in a straight line. It can measure through an Avatar to capture depth
To access the Measure window: areas, it is not meant for measuring the surface but instead for measureing depths

HEIGHT: To check the Avatar's height from the ground to a particular point. This
will always measure in a 100% straight vertical line. (Especially useful if the Avatar is
wearing heels.)
