Design Process
Spring-Summer Season Collection

The collection which i am going to make is for spring/summer season and i am going to make
this collection for those women of Rajasthan who do not know what is happening in the fashion
world and who cannot stand for their rights. So i want to redesign their clothes which will have
the essence , culture and tradition of their family but with a fashion touch. My collection will
focus on the middle class women maintaining the balance between their buget and a good
quality and fashionable clothing. The style that i am going to focus on is traditional indian ethnic
wear with some modern twist . this time for colors i will try to use pastel and soft colors for
rajasthani costumes , with different fabrics and embroidery,
the age group i will be focusing on is 26-30 years .

Styling is not only about styling a garment
but it is also about matching it with right
accessories , footwear , hairstyle and
makeup . And that is what was taught to us
throughout tihis process .
Fashion styling

Flat-lay photography of lifestyle products, luxury


products and food were done. For lifestyle flat lay
photography, objects were carefully arranged for
theme based visual story of an individual . For product
photoshoot things were kept simple. I chose a
perfume bottle as a product to be captured. The
perfume bottle was transparent glass with a brand
name in pink , so a shiny brown background was
chosen to give it the luxurious feel. Positioning the
elements and choosing a relevant background was
most important. Lights, shadows and background
textures had to be experimented with, to create
emphasis on the product. For food photography
kitchen essentials were placed on a white background
.
Draping

From learning to use ball pins to keeping the


fabrics in place to create designs using them
we were taught everything . Proper
measurments of the fabric are taken to
drape the fabrics . Adults bodice , skirts ,
kinds of darts , cowl top .

Pattern Making

Pattern making requires proper measurements . All these patterns are made with proper measurements
. Scaling them is also very important . And the most important part is cutting the paper pattern.

Cost sheets, time & action calendar and specification sheets were made. Technical specification sheets
were made with construction details of the garment. Excel sheets were used to make this possible. It
was interesting to learn math and management that goes behind bringing apparel collections to life.
The role of a fashion merchandiser in the industry was understood.
Fashion sales and marketing
(Research on Louis Vuitton)

Evolution of marketing was studied and different brands were analyzed for their promotion strategies. Market
segmentation and demographics were also studied. Perceptual mapping and SWOT analysis were conducted on
some brands to understand brand positioning. The 7P’s (product, price, place, promotion, people, process, physical
evidence) were focused on

Fashion Forecasting
A trend report was created based on already existing
international fashion collections. Works of various
designers were scoured through, on websites like Vogue
Runway, Harpers bazaar, WGSN etc. This module
persuaded me to analyze the themes behind fashion
collections and understand fashion trends through the
process. In the set I had analyzed, the trending aspect
was figured to be the galaxy. Many designers were
inspired by the ever so vast galaxy and its many
elements.
Adobe Photoshop
Various tools of Adobe Photoshop were used to execute projects like Image
retouching, Image manipulation, Color treatment etc. Also an all-over print
pattern was developed from a source image and rendered onto croquis, to
make digital illustrations

To make a brand logo and to create your own brand structure was taught through
illustrator. Using the tools in a proper way and to create magic using them was been
practiced. To making visiting cards using the correct tools to add on a extra - profit to your
brand was also been taught . We also learnt the process of garment rendering with all the
additional details of highlights , shadows , strokes were also been done.

Fabric Manipulation and Ornamentation

Embroidery is an ancient form of needlework that has been


used worldwide to embellish textiles for decorative and
communicative purposes . And this what exactly what was
taught to us. The different methods of stiching and their uses
were understood. The art of embroidery were created
concept based.
Visual Merchandising

Interior and exterior store displays were studied. The use of Mannequin styling,
types of lights, signages, etc used at the stores to attract customers were studied in
detail. A category of apparel was identified and the layouts, elements and principles
of VM applied in the retail stores of these brands were analyzed.
