MANAGEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION
Management in organization is the function that coordinates the
efforts of people to accomplish goals and objectives using
available resources efficiently and effectively.
Management comprises, planning, organizing, staffing, leading
or directing and controlling and organization to accomplish the
goal. Resourcing encompasses the deployment and manipulation
of human resources, financial resources, technological resources
and natural resources. Management is also and academic
discipline, a social science whose objective is to study social
organizations.
Most investors realize that its important for a company to have a
good management team. The problem is that evaluating
management is difficult so many aspects of the job are intangible.
its clear that investors can`t always be sure of a company by only
poring over financial statements. Fallouts such as Enron,
WorldCom and ImClone have demonstrated the importance of
emphasizing the qualitative aspects of a company. There is no
magic formula for evaluating management, but there are factors
which you should pay attention.
INTRODUCTION OF PUMP
The hydraulic machines which convert the mechanical energy
into hydraulic energy are called pump.
Pumps operate by some mechanism and consume energy to
perform mechanical work moving the fluid. Pumps operate via
many energy sources, including manual operation, electricity,
engines, or wind power, come in many sizes, form microscopic
for use in medical applications to large industrial pumps.
Mechanical pumps serve in a wide range of applications such as
pumping water from wells, aquarium filtering and aeration, in the
car industry for water-cooling and fuel injection, in the energy
industry for pumping oil and natural gas or foe operating cooling
towers.
CLASSIFICATION OF PUMP
VERTICAL TURINE PUMP
A specialized centrifugal pump designed to move water from a
well or reservoir that is deep underground. Also known as well
turbine pump or shaft align pump, it is one of two named type of
turbine.
The two main type of turbine pipes are vertical turbine pumps and
submersible turbine pumps.
Vertical turbine pumps have the motor located above ground,
connected via along vertical shaft to impeller the bottom of the
pump while submersible pumps have the electric motor located
under water at the bottom pump.
The term turbine, in the pump name is somewhat of a misoner, as
this pump type has nothing to do with a turbine.
The pumps are usually driven by an ac electric induction motor
or by a diesel engine through a right-angle drive. The pumps end
consists of at least one rotating impeller that is attached to a shaft
and directs the well water into a diffuser casing cooled bowl.
Multistage configuration used multiple impellers on the same
shaft to create higher pressure that would needed for deeper wells
or higher required pressure head at ground level.
Vertical turbine pumps works when water enters the pump at
bottom through a bell-shaped part called the suction bell.
From there it moves into first stage impeller, raises the water’s
velocity. The water enters the diffuser bowl immediately above
the impeller where this high velocity energy is converted into
high pressure.
The bowl also directs the fluid into the next impeller located
immediately above the bowl and this process continue through all
the stage of the pump.
After the water levels the last diffusible, it passes through a
vertical column pipe as it rises up the well bore tower the surface.
The spinning shaft inside this column is supported at three or five
intervals with sleeves bushing that mounted inside the column
and lubricating by the water moving passed through them.
At the surface is the pump discharges head, which allows the flow
to change direction pipe. A vertical thrust AC motor is mounted
above the discharge head.
CONSTRUCTION OF VERTICAL TURBINE
PUMP
General Description:
Vertical turbine pumps are normally designed to operate in walls
or sumps. The bowl assembly consists primarily of a suction case
or bell, one or more discharge bowls, and a discharge head. The
number of stages employed is determined by the head
requirement off the installation. The pump bowl assembly is
positioned in the sump or well at a depth to provide the proper
submergence. A pump shaft, common to a; moving parts in the
bowl assembly, provides mechanical linkage to the pump driver
unit.
Two basic configurations of the bowl assembly are the pen type
at the enclosed type. Functional difference in the two types is in
the methods employed to lubricant to the line shaft. In the
enclosed type, a tube is placed over the line shaft and lubricants
are supplied to the bearings through the shaft tube. In the open
type, no lubricants are used other than the fluid being pumped.
USES
They are primarily used wherever a submersible pump is not
possible, because the flow is above the range of turbine, or
because the owner prefers mounted at the top of the pump.
They are commonly used in wells that are bored to provide
agricultural or turf irrigation, or to provide water supply for
municipalities that rely on ground water rather than surface water.
They are also used to provide plenty make up water and fire water
for industrial plenty.
They are commonly used in wells that are bored to provide

Vertical turbine pumps may also pump from an open body of
water such as reservoir, or pump intake structure, rather than from
a bored well.
They can also be mounted on top of tank in an industrial setting.
They may also be mounted inside a barrel, so that the suction
source may be higher or lower than atmospheric pressure. The
pump in this configuration may be used as a booster pump for
booting municipal water supply, or in an industrial application
where the pressure must be booted. Or it can take suction from a
vessel under vacuum, such as hot well condensate pump
application.
They are very versatile, with flows ranging from around 50 rpm
to 30000 rpm and higher. They pump is also very as to the amount
of head generated, as the pump can be built with one stage or
many.
These advantages make it one of the most common type of
centrifugal pumps, and its used in many commercial, industrial,
municipal. And agricultural application.

ADVANTAGE

1. Vertical turbine pumps are more efficient at pumping at the

required duties than submersible.
2. Vertical pumps should be applied for any underground water
source where the supply water level is below the pumps
suction. Vertical turbine impellers remain submerged in the
water supply at all times. Start-up is instantaneous and don’t
requires any priming.
3. Maintenance could potentially be easier and safer due to dry
access.
4. The intake chamber size is reduced compared to submersible.
5. Ideal for deep set applications where use of line shaft pump
is impractical.
6. Complete unit is installed underground, resulting in quiet
operation and space saving.
7. Long life/low maintenance, no lubrication, alignment.
DISADVANTAGE

1. The plant room needs to be designed to prevent noise

causing a nuisance.
2. Requires a plant enclosure approximately 4 meters high.

TESTING OF PUMP

• Discharge Head is placed above the column pipe.

• After the packing box is placed.
• Then TBH ( Thrust Bearing Housing ) is placed inside the
discharge head.
• After the motor stand is place above the discharge head.
• The motor is connected to the power supply.
• The supply is then switched on.
• The motor shaft as well as the pump shaft is rotating and
the pump is giving head and discharge.
• A Manometer is connected with the pipe. Then the
manometer reading is taken.
• Then the discharge is calculated using the formula:

Q = K√(L1+L2)

Where
Q = Total Discharge.
K = Orifice Constant.
L1 = Height of the left limb.
L2 = Height of the right limb.

Also, the height of the two limbs of the manometer can find
by using the formula:
𝑁𝑡
L1+L2= ( 𝑁𝑟
𝑋𝑄 )2
𝑘

Total head is calculated by using the formula:

Total Head = Pressure Head + Velocity Head + Discharge

{P[kg/cm ] x 10 + (v /2g) + z}m

Total input power of the pump is calculated using the given formula:

P input = P motor x ὴ Motor

At last the pump efficiency called using the given formula:

ὴ PUMP = (Q x H) / (P input x 367.2)

CONCLUSION

We would to like to say first this training program is an excellent

opportunity for us to get to the ground level and experience the
things that we would have never I gained thought going straight
in to a job. We were grateful to the WPIL LIMITED for giving
us this wonderful opportunity.
The main objective of the industrial training is to provide to
undergraduate’s to identity, observe and practice how
engineering is applicable in the real industry. It is not only to get
experience on technical practice but also to observe management
practice and to interact with fellow worker. It is to be work with
sophisticated machines, but not with people. The only chance that
an undergraduate has to have this experience is the industrial
training period. We feel we got the maximum out of that
experience. Also, we learnt the way of work in an organization,
the importance of being punctual, the important of maximum
commitment, and the importance of team spirt.
The training program having three destinations was lot more
useful I than saying at one place throughout the whole four weeks.
In our opinion, we have gained lots of knowledge and experience
needed to be successful in a great engineering challenge, as in our
opinion, engineering is after all challenge, and not a job.
