Gender denotes sex. There are four genders: masculine gender, feminine gender, common
gender, and neuter gender.

Masculine gender: He is a good boy. (He and boy are in the masculine gender because they
denote the male sex.)

Feminine gender: She is a pretty girl. (She and girl are in the feminine gender because they
denote the female sex.)

Common gender: The child is playing. (Child is in the common gender because child may mean
male or female.)

Neuter gender: The tree has lost its leaves. (Tree and its are in the neuter gender because they
indicate objects which have no sex. Neuter gender means no sex.)

There are three general ways of indicating change in gender:

1. By changing the entire word

Masculine Feminine

brother sister

king queen
husband wife

uncle aunt

nephew niece

master mistress

bull COW

2. By placing a word before or after the noun.

boyfriend girfriend

landlord landlady

salesman saleswoman

3. By using different ending.

food.

9. We watched the cat play with its tail, it would move it's tail back and forth and then try to
catch it. My baby brother laughed when he saw the cat, he tried to get down from my arms,
wanted to play with the cat.

10. Jose's aunt sends him nice presents. He thanks her for it. Once she gave him a wrist watch.
He was very happy to get it.
