ACTIVITY 3
What did you feel during the singing of the song “Tatsulok” What do
you think is/are the message/s of the song to you, to the class, to the
school, to government agencies, to communities? What you think was
the context of the song and what could be its message to the
citizens of today?
Tatsulok was the song and voice of the youth, composed and performed by the Buklod
band. The OPM song "Tatsulok" has a strong symbolic meaning. I recall hearing this song when I
was younger, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to interpret the passage that the song wishes
to express to everyone. Whenever I hear this song, it usually catches my attention when I
analyze the true meaning of the song, it was for Filipinos who are discriminated against since
they do not have a high enough position in the pyramid and are always at the bottom. It made
me think, and there is a part of me that I cannot explain since the song is so relevant to our
position; it makes me sad and humiliated.
Everyone has the right to go to school and study regardless of socioeconomic class,
ethnicity, religion, sex, or other factors. We should prevent discrimination and bullying in school
not because one student is not on your level; we are all equal, therefore we should put an end
to it. Education must focus on increasing respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
It should encourage understanding, tolerance, and camaraderie among all people rather than
discrimination.
Through the song, they are encouraging us not to be complacent about our status in
society and to stop complaining about how we are constantly oppressed by a much more
powerful class instead we can turn the triangle around and deliver the justice we deserve.
This chaos, as stated in the song, is produced by the society triangle form. It describes
our society's social class, in which only a few people belong at the top. The majority of
Filipinos can be seen around the bottom of the Tatsulok. We are speaking out to draw
attention to the fact that classicism is the actual reason for anarchy. According to the
lyrics, justice is exclusively for the wealthy. Those at the top control land and resources,
while our farmers remain landless and employees struggle to make ends meet on low
salaries. If we opened our eyes, we would see that our main enemies are not other
countries but ourselves. We are the cause that our country remains poor as a result of
classicism. This song would make us realize that we have the power to turn the triangle
around and give ourselves the justice we deserve. The lyrics suggest that it is not color,
gender, or race that causes imbalance, but the inequality of people's powers and
capacities that allows for classifications in society. Until now, everyone has been
screaming for freedom, equality, and the inversion or, better still, removal of the socio-
political pyramid.
"Habang may tatsulok at sila ang nasa tuktok, Hindi matatapos itong gulo," Bamboo
says at the end of the song said as long as the elites rule, the issues will continue until the
ruling class changes. And it will not stop unless we do something about it. Simply listening to
the whole song reveals the song's goal, which is to inform the Philippine government of the
circumstances leading up to the severe treatment of the elites.
