ACTIVITY 1. Flash Back!

Title: Ode to Nothingness by Way of Some Things

Author: Kristian Sendon CORDERO

Three-sentence summary: This poem shows the suffering of the farmers. Pointing, scaring the
carabao. While I eat, my tongue feels the seeds of this tart tangerine
which I throw to the ground without any hope for an afterlife.

-It’s about the dangers that a hurricane poses to every person
2. How did you find reading the poem?
- Inspiring and Helpful to our daily life
3. How did the author describe the aftermath of a storm?
-Rain brings gloom in the world
4. If you were the author, are you also going to illustrate the situation after a storm in same
way? Why or Why not?
-Yes, to better understand the readers
5. How is the poem significant to the lives of the Bicolanos?
-Because it narrates the real event experienced by the people of Bicolanos.

Activity 3

1. If you were an author, how are you going to contribute to the development of regional
literary traditions?
-By doing an online search of literary works from your community and teaching people who
want to learn literary traditions.
2. What aspect of regional literary traditions do you want to develop in your masterpiece?
- Have disciplines with each other.

Activity 4

Interpretation: The poem expresses the need for discipline to change and improve one’s condition. If
you are a patriot and want to change your countrymen's mentality, you must first
teach them discipline.

What did you learn from this lesson/activity?
-I learned that Bicol literature is poetry, novel or fiction written about Bicol. Not necessarily in
the Bicol language, not necessarily published in Bicol, and not necessarily by a Bicolano, but
it's about Bicol.
