Evidence I have attempted to
create lessons in
which students can
activate prior
knowledge or lessons
in which students can
relate to the
characters/subject
we are reading about.
I ask students if they
know anyone who is
like a particular
character in stories
they have read or if
they could describe
how this character
would be today. (Fall,
2021)

Students have a

assignments. For
example: When
asking students to
write a Fable, they
have a choice in the
type of characters
they want to create
and the moral they
want to teach us.
(9/24/21)

Oftentimes, Your
Choice assignments
come up and I allow
students to choose
what they would like
to write about, giving
them some guidelines
to follow. (ongoing).

We do send out a
Interest Survey a
week before school
starts but I am
unsure on how to
really incorporate
those interests into
their classwork.

Evidence I create connections
between what we
learn in stories and
what we learn in real
life by showing a
connection between
the stories we read
and Newsela articles.
I will then facilitate a
discussion where
students can share

application.(Q1,
2021)

Assessments given
ask the student to

compare the theme,
central/main idea,
supporting details
and are also able to
point out their
differences (Q1,
2021)

In addition, while
discussing characters
I ask students if they
know anyone in their
life that reminds
them of a particular
character, either in
real life or in
something they have
watched. They need
to give supporting
details when
comparing. (Q1,
2021)

students to discuss

Evidence I use a variety of
questioning
strategies with my
students. One
strategy I use is
Action-Build-
Challenge. A student
will answer a
question and then I
will have students
either agree or
disagree with them. I
will choose a student
who disagrees and
ask them to justify
their answer but
proving the other
student wrong. If
they agree with the
first student, they
need to build upon
that answer and add
Standard 1 CSTP: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning
something to the
conversation. This
encourages my
students to think
more deeply about
the question at
hand(ongoing).

Another strategy I
use is the wait
strategy. This one is
difficult but I wait for
the question to sink
in for students and I
do not allow “calling
out” or answering
before I ask students
to answer. This
allows all students to
really get a chance to
think about how they
want to answer and
fosters participation
for all levels of
ability. When
students call out
answers (or in my
platform, type
answers in the chat)
other students who
have not found the
answer will stop
thinking about the
answer and wait for
someone else to
answer(ongoing).
