By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
1.1.3 Recognise independently attitudes or opinions in extended texts on a wide range
of familiar topics and some unfamiliar topics by answering 7 listening comprehension
LEARNING OBJECTIVES questions.
1.2.1 Guess the meaning of unfamiliar words from clues provided by other words and by
context on a wide range of familiar topics and some unfamiliar topics by circling the
correct answers for 6 statements and completing 6 gap fills for 6 sentences.
What I’m looking for (WILF)
1. Pupils can circle the correct answers for 6 statements
SUCCESS CRITERIA 2. Pupils can complete 6 gap fills for 6 sentences.
3. Pupils can answer 7 listening comprehension questions.

ACTIVITIES
1. Pupils work in pairs and participate in a role play, with one acting as a teenager who has been
arrested for a crime and the other is a lawyer.
PRE-LESSON 2. The teenager must explain what happened and why, and ask the lawyer for the best advice to deal
with the problem.
3. A few pairs act out their role play in front of the class.
LESSON DEVELOPMENT 4. Pupils turn to page 76 English Download and read the instructions and 6 sentences in Activity 1.
5. Pupils listen to a recording about 6 speakers and circle the correct answers for 6 statements.
(Complementary Skill)
6. Pupils discuss their answers in pairs and justify any difference in answers.
7. Pupils check the answers as a class.
8. Pupils read the instructions and 6 sentences in Activity 2 and identify the parts in the first sentences
that are going to be rephrased in the second sentence and to remember these key wprds or phrases
for the second round of listening.
9. Pupils listen to the same recording again and complete 6 gap fills for 6 sentences in Activity 2.
(Complementary Skill)
10. Pupils discuss their answers in pairs and justify any difference in answers.
11. Pupils check the answers as a class.
12. Pupils read the information in Download box and one pupil is chosen to explain the tip in his or her
own words.
13. Pupils read the instructions and 7 questions in Activity 3.
14. Pupils listen people talking in 7 different situations and answer 7 MCQ questions. (Main Skill)
15. Pupils check the answers as a class.
Differentiated Actvities:
Less proficient pupils: Read the audio text to them at a slightly slower speed
More proficient pupils: Provide more (multiple-choice) questions from the audio texts.
16. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by playing word bingo or true/false definitions to revise
