“Gender Discrimination”

For years, the lesbian, gay, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) community within the

Philippines have always make a stand for equality and respect from our society and were calling

out for action from the authorities especially for the passage of legal guidelines to defend the

rights of everyone no matter sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI).

Despite growing acceptance of LGBT people, acceptance is still a long way off. LGBT

people in the Philippines continue to face violence and discrimination from their families, civil

society organizations, medical and health institutions, schools, workplaces, and the government.

They've been evicted from their homes. They were bullied at school. They have been denied

basic workplace rights. They've been barred from establishments and mocked in public. They

have been denied the right to vote on legislation. All of this is because they do not conform to

societal gender norms, a society that is witnessing the growing crisis of conflict against our

standings.

Even though the 1987 Philippine charter ensures the proper of absolutely everyone to

identical safety of the legal guidelines, without distinction or discrimination, the legal guidelines

protecting human rights aren't being equally carried out especially to individuals with diverse

SOGI. The nation additionally fails to cope with the overwhelming amount of hate crimes and

murders of LGBT people in the Philippines and the quantity of hate crimes towards LGBT

human beings within the Philippines is growing. Widespread and systematic human rights

violations based totally on sexual orientation, gender identification, and homosexuality persist in
the Philippines. The arrests, harassment, and discrimination faced by using LGBT humans within

the Philippines demonstrate the pressing need for the authorities of the Philippines to act.

The Philippines' government should make passage of comprehensive anti-discrimination

legislation, which includes protections for LGBT people, the main concern to avoid harassment,

discrimination, and violence against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The state party needs to also take all necessary legislative, administrative, and different measures

to eliminate and prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,

including concerning access to employment, housing, education, and fitness care, and to ensure

that people of different sexual orientation or gender identity are protected from violence and

social exclusion within the society.
