In an absorption type refrigerator, the pure ammonia vapor leaving the evaporator is dry
saturated at -22°C. The evaporator capacity is 1.36 m 3/min. The generator, absorber and
condenser temperatures are 65 °C, 34 °C and 40°C respectively. A 6.54 kg/min of strong
solution leaves the absorber with an enthalpy of 27 kJ/kg while the weak solution leaves the
generator with an enthalpy of 717 kJ/kg. For this refrigerator determine the mass flow rate of
refrigerant in the evaporator, the refrigeration capacity (in TR) and the mass flow rate of weak
solution (in kg/min). Evaluate the heat lost in the absorber and condenser and the heat added in
the generator (in kJ/min). What is the COP of this refrigerator?
