• Read and analyze the poem, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, by William Wordsworth.
Write a paragraph with at least ten (10) sentences discuss how the poetic elements contributed to
the poem. Name the poetic elements discussed in class.

I wandered lonely as a cloud The waves beside them danced; but they
That floats on high o'er vales and hills, Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
When all at once I saw a crowd, A poet could not but be gay,
A host, of golden daffodils; In such a jocund company:
Beside the lake, beneath the trees, I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. What wealth the show to me had brought:

Continuous as the stars that shine For oft, when on my couch I lie
And twinkle on the milky way, In vacant or in pensive mood,
They stretched in never-ending line They flash upon that inward eye
Along the margin of a bay: Which is the bliss of solitude;
Ten thousand saw I at a glance, And then my heart with pleasure fills,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. And dances with the daffodils.

My personal analysis is that this poem is about natures captivating beauty and its positive impact to
humans. The feeling of enjoying the beauty of nature can change human loneliness to happines when
interacting with nature. The following poetic element are used in this poem:
1. Simile: the author used a simile in this poem when he compares his loneliness with a single cloud
when he say" I wonder lonely as a cloud" & the 2nd simile in this poem is when he compares the endless
row of Daffodils with the countless stars in this line "Continous as the stars that shine"
2. Personification: the author used personification in this line "Tossing their heads in sprightly dance" it
shows that the daffodils are humans that can dance.
3. Metaphor: the author used a methapor in this line "They flash upon that inward eye" here the "inward
eye" represent the memory of the daffodils.

The Major Theme in this poem is humans appreciation in natures captivating beauty. And another is
natures positive impact to humans especially when we are feeling low.
