Task 4 Ivonne Ojeda - Mariana Rauque
Task 4 Ivonne Ojeda - Mariana Rauque
The corona virus negatively impacted the retail sector, this one that had been declining since 2019
due to the social crisis was seriously impacted for 2020 by the health crisis, causing store closures,
falling face-to-face sales throughout Chile and causing families to have no way to get the products
they needed.
The corona virus affected the normal functioning of retail in Chile causing companies in the sector
to temporarily close their branches until the change of phase in which the cities are located, this
caused them to mostly only have online sales so they had to reduce the number of employees they
had before the pandemic. The percentage of layoffs in the retail sector is then disclosed.
It is observed that for the year 2019 due to the social crisis there were 10% of layoffs, but by 2020
there were 40% layoffs due to the health crisis due to store closures. This was very damaging both
for the retail sector and for the economic situation of the country. Due to the few sales that were
made during that period, by 2021 due to the relative reopening of some stores in some cities saw an
increase in hiring, but equally there is 15% unemployment.
Customers were also affected because they couldn't get the products they wanted. in addition to the
increase in the price of the products, so they decreased by a high percentage of customers because
not everyone has knowledge of how to make purchases online.
FALABELLA
Covid caused profits to fall by 76% by 2020 due to the temporary closure of branches in Chile, ,
Colombia and Peru with approximately 7810 layoffs. The Argentina branch was the most affected
causing the definitive closure. By the second half of 2020 Falabella began investing in technology
to deliver a better service online, this caused online sales to increase by 124%, this gave such
positive results despite the large losses they obtained from the closure of the branches. So despite
the crisis they knew how to get ahead and find something positive from it, due to the good results
they obtained for the online sales of each branch they decided to add to their online sale shipping to
regions to be paid and also shipments around the world with free shipping, so despite the current
crisis they managed to cope with it. With this, the hiring of new staff increased by 10% and
managed to reach the majority of customers. For the year 2021 positive results are expected during
the year, since if it were returned to quarantine Falabella will continue to sell online.
UNEMPLOYMENT
FALABELLA
