limit values can be configured on the inputs of the expansion module I(N), I(Diff), analog.
In the event of a limit violation, a digital output of the PAC device can be switched in order
to output a status message.
• Status indication via LED
• When used in conjunction with a SENTRON 7KM PAC3220 or PAC4200 measuring device,
the averaging of all measured values is possible in two stages, which are independent of
each other and freely configurable (aggregation).
The associated Modbus table can be found in the Appendix (Page 37).
The expansion module I(N), I(Diff), analog increases the scope of measuring functions of the
SENTRON 7KM measuring devices.

WARNING
Hazardous voltage
Using devices when they are damaged may result in death, serious injury, or property
damage.
The expansion module is inserted in the appropriate slot labeled "MOD1" or "MOD2" on the
rear panel of the SENTRON 7KM PAC measuring device.
Note
Only one expansion module of the type I(N), I(Diff), analog may be connected to the PAC
measuring device.
NOTICE
Condensation may cause the device to malfunction.
The device must be in the operating environment for at least two hours before use to
prevent condensation due to sudden temperature changes.
NOTICE
CAUTION
Electrostatic discharge
The expansion modules contain electronic components that can be irreparably damaged by
electrostatic discharge.
When handling modules, make sure that all objects in the handling environment (persons,
workstation and packaging) are properly grounded. Do not touch the module contacts.
NOTICE
Overheating of the device
The expansion module can overheat if the ventilation slots are covered.
Overheating shortens the service life of the expansion module.
Ensure that the ventilation slots are not covered.
DANGER
Hazardous voltage.
Failure to observe this notice will cause death, serious injury or property damage.
Turn off and lock out all power supplying this equipment before working on this device.
WARNING
Some of the following tasks are carried out when hazardous voltage is present. For this
reason, they must only be carried out by qualified personnel who are familiar with and
follow the safety regulations and precautions.
Wear the prescribed protective clothing. Observe the general equipment regulations and
safety regulations for working on high-voltage installations (e.g. DIN VDE, NFPA 70E as well
as national or international regulations).
The limits given in the technical data must not be exceeded even during commissioning or
testing.
The polarity and phase assignment of the instrument transformers must be tested. Before
connecting the device, you must check whether the system voltage matches the voltage
specified on the type plate.
Before power is applied to the device for the first time, it must have been located in the
operating area for at least two hours in order to reach temperature balance and avoid
humidity and condensation.

Connection examples
Several example connections for the expansion module I(N), I(Diff), analog can be found
below.
The device can be connected for current measurement and/or use of the analog inputs I5 / I6
or a combination of both. The module must be individually configured to meet the
requirements of the application.
Use of the external current transformer makes it possible to measure higher residual currents
in the system.
Example:
5SV870 is a 500/1 A current transformer. This results in a minimum measurable residual
current in the system of 0.05 mA *500/1 = 25 mA and a maximum measurable residual
current in the system of 500/1*60 mA = 30 A (type AC sine with peak factor 1.41 alpha = 0°)
or 3 A (type A sine with peak factor 4.69 alpha = 135°) as per the definition in IEC / TR 60755.
Use of the external current transformer makes it possible to measure higher system currents.
Example:
Using a 50/5 A current transformer results in a maximum measurable I(N) current in the
system of 50/5*5 A = 50 A (sine with peak factor 1.41).
Use of the external current transformer makes it possible to measure higher residual currents
in the system.
Example:
Type B 5SV870 is a 450/1 current transformer. In this case, the minimum measurable residual
current in the system is limited by the 5S870 current transformer and is 30 mA. The
maximum measurable residual current in the system is determined by the 5S870 current
transformer. It is 1 A.
Note
The current transformer types shown in the drawings are examples. These can be replaced by
other suitable transformers.
If the device is used in the UL market, the use of transformers with UL approval is required.
IN input:
A suitable current transformer must be used to measure the N-conductor current. The
appropriate current transformer ratio must be set on the SENTRON 7KM PAC measuring
device or powerconfig.
I5 input:
A suitable summation current transformer (type A or type B) must be used to measure the
current. The input must be configured accordingly on the SENTRON 7KM PAC measuring
device or powerconfig.
I6 input:
A suitable summation current transformer (type A or type B) must be used to measure the
current. The input must be configured accordingly on the SENTRON 7KM PAC measuring
device or powerconfig.
Note
If two type B transformers are used on I5 and I6 analog inputs, it must be ensured that the
transformers have separate power supplies. Two type B transformers must not be powered by
the same power supply unit. Each type B transformer must have its own power source.
Note
When the expansion module is used as residual current monitor, the device is only designed
to display the residual current. It cannot control the switching elements in the circuit.
The I5 and I6 analog inputs can also be used to measure analog signals (0 / 4 ... 20 mA). The
inputs must be configured accordingly on the SENTRON 7KM PAC measuring device or
powerconfig.
A suitable sensor (0 / 4 ... 20 mA) must be used for this application. The inputs I5 and I6 are
passive. A voltage source of ≤ 50 VDC must be connected as shown in the diagram.
Note
If two sensors are used on I5 and I6 analog inputs, it must be ensured that the sensors have
separate power supplies. Two sensors must not be powered by the same power supply unit.
Each sensor must have its own power source.
Note
Refresh time
The refresh time of the measured values can be up to 5 s.
Requirements
1. The expansion module has already been installed.
2. The expansion module and the PAC device have been connected up correctly.
Note
Check the connections.
Failure to connect up the device correctly can result in malfunctions and failure of the device.
Before you start commissioning the device, check that all connections are correct.
Note
When performing an insulation test of the entire installation with AC or DC, the device should
be disconnected before starting the test.
DANGER
Open transformer circuits will result in electric shock and arc flashover.
Failure to observe this notice will cause death, serious injury or considerable damage
to property.
Current can only be measured by external current transformers. Do not use fuses for circuit
protection. Do not open the secondary circuit of the current transformers under load. Short
circuit the secondary current terminals of the current transformer before removing this
device. The safety information for the current transformers used must be followed.
The IN, I5 and I6 inputs of the module can be configured in the "SETTINGS" menu.
You can parameterize the input after you have selected the connection variant.
Example:
A summation current transformer a with transformer ratio of 500/1 should be connected to
input I5 or I6 and parameterized.
The following parameters must be set at input I5 or I6:
CT RATIO: 500
Current example:
Example:
A temperature measurement transmitter is to be connected and parameterized at input I5.
Transmitter data:
The SENTRON powerconfig configuration software can be downloaded from the Industry
Online Support website (https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/63452759).
The following module information can be found in menu item "I(N) I(DIFF) ANALOG":
• MLFB number
• Serial number
• Firmware version
• Diagnostics
